  • hamishm,

The plan is responsive and is regularly evaluated to ensure it meets changing risk profiles

That'll be why the Tauranga Coast Guard guy said that they don't get to practice with big ships.
The plan was busy being responsive, I guess.

  • Sacha,

Mr Key twists and turns like a twisty turny thing. Hone calls a spade a spade.

Mr Harawira said the Prime Minister is “telling a pack of lies” in saying there is no link between the effects of a shipping disaster and deep-sea drilling.

“He's a bloody liar, quite frankly. This is about oil spills and our ability to handle it…You ask any New Zealander in the country right now, have we handled this one well? And I bet you we get a 100 percent ‘No we haven't’,” Mr Harawira said.

John Key said this afternoon that his Government has always tried to balance “economic opportunities” with “environmental responsibilities”.

  • Ian Dalziel,

    Bohai Hillbillies...
The Government's offshore drilling safety assurances
ring pretty hollow if even the Chinese can't control
    their business partners...
and they tried to deny it existed
for a while too... all 840 sq km of it!

So they can't preen, which would cause oil ingestion.

Two National governments, one Bill English, same results.

For this Government there has only been one national disaster under its watch that has been deigned worthy of a speedy response with unlimited resources: South Canterbury Finance investors were immediately bailed out with $1.7bn (double the figure of all Treaty claims, iirc), no questions asked about preserving private profit and rewarding of reckless behaviour with state support (i.e. socialised losses for the taxpayer) or why this is suddenly consisdered by free marketeers a necessary and appropriate state function. Rena, Pike River and quakes are merely trifles that happen to the little people.

As old Mac used to say about why political careers failed: "Events, my dear boy!", this lot is obviously careful they (and their ilk) don't get damaged in the process, hence the no-shows in the media as it's all the fault of Previous Labour Gummint/Glocal Financial Crisis/Mother Earth/Overseas shipping and mining companies. Better to smile, wave and walk on water instead.

  • Just thinking,

I see Radio New Zealand National Party have taken on the services of Graeme Thorne.
I only have pity for the man who is a little bitter with life as he constantly moves from failure to failure, forever blaming others.
