Nah! It's the Matrix, maan!
(ok, shop window reflection...)I've always wanted someone to open a takeaway in Tekapo called Knight's Kai...
(but not with astronomical prices, natch...) -

We had a kereru break one of our windows earlier this year. Just one of the smaller ones, thankfully, but it gave my darling one hell of a fright & she was in shock for a couple of hours. Said she thought someone had taken a shot at her when the glass just exploded into the lounge.
Sadly, the kereru didn't live to tell the tale.

Kamikaze Kereru - they are a worry . We live with at around 4-5 Kereru , never seen them crash a window yet . They however gate crash a long lunch on the deck - swooping down over the table alarming the guests . Not sure if its a warning or they are taking the piss.

Thanks for your kind words and contributions above Richard. This really is proving to be quite inspiring.

we're going to have to go out and take new ones. Doh!
Might be an interesting challenge to set boundaries for time. You could specify "must be taken in the last year/month/week", or "must be taken in the 1980s"....

Fringe festival flags
What great flags! I love how they're all different but all harmonise together.

Fringe festival flags, 2004, Wellington waterfront, on the hill that's since been levelled. My first day out with a digital camera.
And in the background, the former Odlins building before it was redone as the NZX HQ.

Simon, your food photos are making me hungry. Another idea for a future post?
That last food shot was one of Brigid's. She's got a very infrequent (despite my urging) food blog which I've linked to here before but don't mind doing so again.
The downside of being married to a food blogger of course is that she feels the need to photograph every meal out, and I just have to sit impatiently drooling while she does so.
Plus everyone thinks you're Japanese.

Straying a bit off topic here sorry, but can't resist mentioning the Guardian's savaging of Pippa Middleton's new book on party planning:
Indeed, the entire article showcased Pippa's rhetorical style. "Why not," ran another of her inquiries, "collect and clean chicken wishbones in the run-up to Christmas, spray them silver and use each to pinch together a white hem-stitch napkin?" I still can't put my finger on the answer to that question, but am fairly sure it's to do with The Silence of the Lambs.

The woman who makes these fabulous flags is standing in your picture, in the bottom of the picture, in the centre, with a blue headband.
We bought one of these flags (not the big ones on the hill behind - they are commission only and are around $400 each), but one the size of a cape, if a cape were a flag, as a Christmas present for my parents. They loved it and flew it all summer... Carnival flags are fun.

Nice one. I worked in a kite shop in Mt Eden many moons ago (80s) that also sold flags, or at least the windsock type. The colours were always great, and they brought a lot of happiness to people, I recall.

Some more flagging enthusiasm. Grey Lynn Festival
The irony is that the non-fringe flags have fringes on. :-)
