Anyone else at the Groupe F show in the /ak domain last night? Great show, lights, colour, fire and fireworks.
The rainbow warrior moment threw the crowd. The crowd was silent…. no applause for this one. It was only later I realised the Kiwi ‘don’t want to make a fuss’ response had kicked in… really we should have been roaring or booing.

I saw the preview on was it Campbell Live, and was shocked by what seemed the cheerful insensitivity of 'the French' to portraying so brazenly their State's homicidal terrorist attack on New Zealand. In the context of a historical pageant perhaps, but still ...
I can imagine the silent crowd being the collective result of something like that shock colliding with awe at the technical and visual brilliance of the spectacle.

Saw an interview with the producer last night and he said it would be interesting to see what the reaction was. Also that the segment will be only for that show and then gone forever. much like the Warrior itself I guess. I think it rather fitting. Wish I was there. Had I known about it, I would have made the effort. Does it cost anything?

I didn't read it as such, I felt he deemed it necessary to portray what had happened and by not sweeping it under the carpet (ocean) it showed the acknowledgement that the French Govt were responsible. Also remember, Not all French are the Govt, just as I'd hate to be associated with this current lot, but wouldn't want to deny past actions of our country and " not want to make a fuss" as Nora suggests may have been the collective approach.I thought it healthy although perhaps cryptic. Jmo though.

Fair enough perhaps, but in the same way I used " 'the French' " in acknowledgement Groupe F are not really the French, Groupe F are not acknowledging responsibility on behalf of the French Govt either. Perhaps too cryptic, just enough to stir a reaction and get a discussion going?
What about those who were there then?

Groupe F are not really the French,
The Director, Christophe Berthonneau did say they were curious to see how we'd react to "Froggy French" telling us a story about our own country. He said "Fragile" and "talking about NZ" in a beautiful french accent I may add.
Anyhow Art for Art sake, I have managed a ticket for tonight so I'll see if I feel different after seeing it :) -
Metro magazine's new Arts website reviews The Breath of the Volcano.

Get in early, get as far to the front as you can – ie towards museum. Will be interested to hear what you find….. I must admit, eyesight aint so good, I may very well have missed some important detail that would flesh out the statement of the froggy diver scenario. Keep your eyes peeled. Maybe there was no extra detail….
It still doesn’t seem to be an event that deserves ‘light’ treatment. Not just the event itself but the treatment of those responsible …. I’m sure the 10 year old that we had to explain this to was a ‘little’ perplexed.
Can’t remember what the music with the froggy scene was, maybe it should have been “I see red”?

Literally no ;) I am going to enjoy the hard work and artistic talent that is a privilege to witness. In no way will I be offended or now shocked at an interpretation of the Rainbow Warriors demise (even with a friend who was on board but off the boat for a dinner engagement). I think it is in our History and should not be forgotten but at the same time some deal was done between our Govt and theirs. The 2 bombers got off lightly as far as I see. So I think the fix was in as Govts do to fix things.
Anyhoo I must away and enjoy my Friday night in Aux.
You have a great night Nora, see you on the flip side :)) -

Wow, Nora, amazing photos! Were you actually in an erupting volcano?

Haha!! I wouldn’t willingly be anywhere near an erupting volcano!! But the show was called Breath of the Volcano. Quite smoky breath too.
Have to see what pictures Sofie B and Jackson come back with, tho I think we had the better night last night… very still, tonight is rather windy.
One more firework burst given the Shake-and-point treatment.

What were you doing round that side? getting away from the wind?
I decided it was reaching the end, and wanted to get a different view of it. Didn't quite get the effect I was looking for, but was different. Certainly the pall of smoke I walked through on the way out was a-whole-nother side of it. <cough> <splutter>

Nowhere near as exciting as the fireworks, and it's still very early spring, but whatever...
Village market, 西五里营/Xīwǔlǐyíng.
The village 秧歌/yāngge troupe was out. That's my wife and wee one on the right. As soon as she hears that yāngge she starts dancing (the verb in this case is 扭秧歌/niǔ yāngge. Niǔ means twist or turn).
The wee one joined in the dancing.
