Black Doris Plums on the way…
We were brought up on black doris plums & greengages as the ultimate fruit to have with custard…my mother Mary used to bottle the greengages but for a long time, the black dorises were the tinned version*. Then one of the family bought a property that had 2 trees of the things…ahhh, bliss!
Your blossoms look promising- (o, and Steve’s birthday koha finally on the way. Small but tasty-)*I occaisionally buy a tin to have with yoghurt…they dont taste quite the same…

Not mine but the tree belongs to Kelmarna Organic gardens (open to public for goodies). The nice part is that it hangs over my friends fence and we has lots.:)
yum, yum, and yum yum yum in anticipation. He will be pleased. Hope he gets a chance to read that. he is busy Far North.
Today a friend (and partner) was well enough to venture out and I happened upon these on our travels -

That blimmin rain has spoilt them.
I don't think so for if that is spoilt, you must have exquisite specimens! Plus mostly, rain helps the purdy lil' plants :)

Dunno about the others, but I'm not not bothering, I'm being consistently stunned by the sheer beauty of your flowers.

What a delight all these photos are, for which I thank everyone! I've been very disciplined and NOT posted some of the lovely photos I've taken in earlier springs - that was then, this is now. There is not much to see in my garden just at present other than an abundance of weeds, but there are still some carrots and parsnips which I planted last summer which are still delicious - didn't mind a bit being in the ground over winter... In the face of an uncertain tenancy here we have wondered whether to put in a vegie garden again, but what the heck - 'forever' is the foreseeable future, so since the future is entirely unknown, we've opted to plant more crops. Not too much work involved - just a quick dig, tuck in those seeds and seedlings, and the garden does the rest! Meanwhile last years veges continue to feed us which is wonderful. Here is a sample. That massive carrot tasted every bit as good as it looks!

I made a quick vid from some of the bird pics
Jos, I have immense admiration for your bird pics! Having taken oh-so-many myself I know just how much skill, dedication and hi-spec camera gear it takes to get that quality - wow!!!

Can testify to the yumminess of Leigh's carrots! Entirely different beasts to what's found in the supermarket.

Impressive and ah, dizzying! In the late afternoon sunlight here I could see a great many tiny flies in the air over the paddock up the back. The day has been so pleasantly sunny and mild it must be perfect hatching and zooming weather. Also two houseflies appeared inside. Spring really has got under way!

Soo, spring cleaning then? ;)

Oh no! I wanna see yours too.
Flowers and other spring-like things are in increasingly short supply round these parts. But I can offer a pleasant surprise and positive change. When I first moved to this corner of Beijing at the end of 2002, this canal stank so badly that I could get on a bus up at Bawangfen (nearest subway station at the time), close my eyes, and know exactly when to get off based purely on the stench. Then they covered over the section west of the road and built a couple of hotels over the top, and the canal was dry most of the time, but still reeked when the summer rains provided a bit of water. Now whoever's in charge of the real estate scam going up on the site of an old market on the north bank seems to have decided to have put water back in the canal, and it still looks filthy, but it doesn't smell. Or perhaps the havoc the seasonal change is wreaking on my nostrils saved me from it....

snap with the carnivores. Amazing looking things eh?
Nepenthes. Love 'em to bits.
Oh, and bikes, like this one...
Handsome brute, though you'd be dismounting every 50 miles or thereabouts to relieve your tail as there's no rear suspension.
Wonderful shots Sofie.
