Mr Dalziel and others taking the Press’s Jane Bowron to task

The comments are much better than the article!

I always giggle when someone derides "do-gooders". Better than no-hopers, eh! :-)

    having a laugh…

I always giggle when someone derides “do-gooders”.

I tried to put a comment up recently (at The Press site) that the unverifiable identity of the very annoying “sock puppet” or “concern troll” commenter known as “Sheelagh” on the Press site (though ‘she’ seems to think it is her site) is possibly an artificial persona construct of the ruling elite, or maybe a ‘syntax algorithm’ (based on the recurring phrases ‘she’ uses) – all that, and my suggestion of a Turing Test for commenters went unpublished…
    <sigh>

    “Sheelagh”

Funny, I tried something similar about a week ago. All I did was politely suggest that there seemed to be a campaign to portray Brownlee as a bigger earthquake victim than those who'd been red zoned. Not allowed. Hard to escape the impression that someone up there has the hots for "Sheelagh".

ooops, I just checked again and The Press have printed my 'spambot' rave in the comments (I'm #75) - must have been a blockage in the system, too much other crap?
    :- )

Keep persevering Joe - it may depend on who is moderating.

In all sorts of media I generally go straight to the comments without reading the article.
Many media articles are template based, you only have to read the headline, the commencing sentence of every second paragraph, and the lead out, seriously.

Hi Islander from the Garden City Motel, I am an earthquake refugee. Best thing about it is our dog Hui could come too.

I note you are referring to a David, a photographer. Is he in the far background next to Alexander or is he behind Anna Craighton?

I would like to take a better picture of him should I be able to spot him at the next civil gathering.

He is David Alexander, the bearded bloke in a blue jacket...ex-Press photojournalist, all-round good guy, and my friend (and my neighbour Judith's friend) for +quarter of a century. We taught him to appreciate single malts...
He's had a crib here in Okarito for many years-

am sorry to hear you've been motelised, but so glad you've got Hui with you -

I tried to put a comment up recently (at The Press site)

I put a comment earlier on that Jane Bowron article with a link to this post (Two Tales of a City), and the mod has printed the comment but removed the link, which makes it nonsense.

I'm against spam and irrelevant link-whoring, but dammit this is the internet. It makes connections!

So it proves to be :-), though I could have refined my post a tad.

BTW that cheap shot about Ian sharing a surname with spawn-of-Satan Lianne (no relation) has got to be in flagrant breach of the Press's own terms & conditions.

Thanks Lilith .Indeed it does mean the place is getting repaired by EQC. For about three weeks I will teach Hui to be welcoming to other dogs in the new hood. It just meant i had to pack up all things working in harmony, printer, scanner and puter. No matter it also means I will have a good sort out when i get back. One accumulates so much stuff in a lifetime. Hope you are keeping warm and things are gong your way.

Thank you Islander now I have a name for this dynamic individual. Whenever you see him he is there one minute and gone the next. Will keep an eye out for his work.

Hope things are moving along with your plans re:relocation and settling into a new place where a Maine Coon might be joining you.
    Keep well .
    Cheers

    Many thanks Gudrun!
David is a really committed photographer - and he, and his wife Rachel (born & longbred (as in superb family lines)in Tokyo) are most hospitable folk - their restored CHCH villa has also been wrecked...

Well, I am sure I will sell my home here* - but I am now starting to long for my place back in Otago- I couldnt have a Maine Coon here, but at Moeraki - and maybe a bichon frise like my mother's wee dog - and o yes indeedy! chooks! Araucanas! My brother and his family have them at The Rocks...

*I have to, before I can build round at The Native Village Reserve...

may all be well with you & yours' - a/n/n/Keri

David is indeed a pro; not often one sees him in the frame. Here's his link http://davidalexanderphoto.com/Home.html

Good luck with the repairs Gudrun. We have hit the pause button on ours until spring/summer -- the family are in a big catch-up this year with life, jobs, hobbies, studies, socialising, everything. Feels like too much else has been on hold for us to be bothered about our slightly chaotic and wee bit hammered house. EQR are going for it in this area on TC2 land for the 10 to 100k damage band; crews of tradies are everywhere. But the poor people who are rebuilds or major repairs seem to be waiting forever.

Looking forward to this meet-up with you both. Hey, I'm not complaining. Normal busy is something to appreciate rather than survival busy. Our supermarket now has three walls up, and there are NO major roadworks at the end of our street, therefore every trip out by car is that much simpler and faster and no dust storm in the wind. By such events is progress measured. It may be worth washing the car for the first time this year.

Lovely photo of Lala/Le Chernu on David's new page - they (David & Rachel) are both cat&dog lovers, but most of all, deeply involved lovely human beings-and good gardners/bee-keepers/cooks and artists in other respects-all best to us all - especially Chchch people still having difficulties- arohanui mai ra n/n Islander

Lyttel Piko is turning into a shareholder co-op as a result of Piko’s rearrangement after the earthquake. It’s a good thing in many ways for wider Christchurch. Here is the Stuff story link.

Today outside the newly opened The Press building Michael Coleman , Brent Cairns and Olly Olson to mention a few aggrieved Cantabrians were snubbed by the people who are supposed to represent them. One important part of a representative is dialogue. Unfortunately the very thing is denied either via correspondence or on a personal level. Mister Brownlee what are you thinking?

Reverent Michael Coleman is not unknown to Mister Brownlee however that makes no difference as we witnessed today. He just walked past anyone who wanted a word with him heading for a waiting people-mover.
