And grand coalition? Never. Entrenched hatred - even I'm surprised talking to MP friends from both sides how much they loathe the opposition. Some more than others of course, but it'd never work. And I think those who voted for either side would somehow feel cheated...
Right, that's me out. Baby to attend to. Soon.

Gambate Damian! And mum & kiddie of course...

Television is somewhat eratic here Damian-
you know what? That idea of introducing puma into ANZ was just SOOO wrong
that – given my conservation interest at that time was wholly whales, dolphins, more whales- I became quite actively engaged in conservation in general – mid-197os-I will search out “Hindsight” – sounds a thoroughly recommendable programme!
No reira – kia kaha! uuummmm- Nov 6 – midday-
that’s my bet – maybe we could have a sweepstake, and winner could buy the bub a good wee piece of pounemu- eh? Anyone?

They also loathe being the opposition. I think it probably wouldn't work, but not because of hate. It's because of pride, that both major parties' senior people believe that when you're in government you call the shots, not the other guys. The idea of forging consensus with those other guys goes against the grain.
However, if times are dire enough, that pride can sometimes be sacrificed. These are pretty dire times, especially for NZ.
It's not what I'd want, ideally, of course. I'd prefer a left coalition.
-
I’d prefer a left coalition.
Me too, but ... if National get the single largest bloc of votes,
but not an absolute majority,
can we still hope for a coalition of the left-overs? -

Somehow the fault lines of 1981 still rankle. President Nixon pulled off a similar thing in America with the Southern Strategy and it's remained ever since.

And sometimes I watch Jersey Shore.
Seems I was just too quick with my judgey-pantedness.

Things are progressing slowly.
Good things take time Damian. BTW Hindsight's a great programme. And good for our history of politics. Perhaps your programme inspired String Theory in some way. Such interesting footage in both your show and the Labour Party Campaign ad.
Now,where's that baby...... -

That show is all about the constant renegotiation of in/appropriate behaviours within an inherently ridiculous and highly gendered subculture, dude. I'm all over it.
(Plus DJ Pauly D is endlessly quotable. "Oh YEAH!")

Islander, just click on the link that Damian put up at the bottom of page 4. It plays Hindsight for you. Fantastic show. It's quite a buzz catching glimpses of my youth way back then. My old school uniforms etc. I'm sure you would love it. Great TV.

Some of the comments on that page unhinged my brain.
Like this;
There's definitely a desperate attempt by academics to place anti-intellectualism in their academic sphere.
I think they might genuinely be over thinking it, just a little bit.

Righto, you folks heard it here first, for those of you who are interested in such things - we had a little boy in the wee smalls of last night. Made a rather dramatic, surgically enhanced entrance, let's hope the similarities to a Kardashian end there.
I'm blown away. It's awesome. I kinda want to hold him aloft like that scene from the Lion King, and/or run around the neighbourhood going "see!... See!... See!"
I'm sure I'll have plenty of opportunity to do both. Thanks all for your good wishes. Whoever had money on 2/11/2011 you can collect at the booth on your way out.
-
Congratulations! How is baby's Mum?
Pics for the peeps any time soon?

Congratulations Damian and family. Welcome to the joy of parenthood. You totally should do the Lion King thing.

And I’m sure the depressing Welfare reforms announced by Key, that I was going to link to will have plenty of opportunity too.
Instead, CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU BOTH!
Name? BOB? ;)
Damian 2? -
Congratulations Damian. Changes your life - being responsible for a little person (in my experience). A little person who may be growing old into the next century. All that stuff about what will life be like in a climate changed world, with who knows what technological advances. Up to us now to make sure things are OK for the next generation.
My mother was born in the first world war and was delivered by one of the first woman doctors. It was an era when a family car was a luxurious rarity and she remembered the first airline flight to NZ. By her death she was a keen emailer and texter.
My sister had a baby daughter on Monday night - as yet unnamed. There is something about holding such a little baby that is quite miraculous.

you are so going to enjoy school plays. bravo

Thanks all.
@Ben - baby's mum (Rebecca) is doing great. Handled the whole process, which of course ended up being absolutely nothing like anyone had planned, beautifully.
-
Congratulations Damian.

Gratz, Damian.

Congrats Chap, & Rebecca.
I shall be buying you a pint later. ;-)
All a parent has to do to make a child thirsty is to go to sleep.

Congratulations! Good work, team. (Also, one of the five percent of babies who arrive on their due date. Whoda thunk?)
-
Babies and parenting rarely goes as planned - unexpected sort of childbirth is a good first lesson.
Danielle, my sister's baby arrived on due date, but with a little help. She could also be the 7th billion person on earth, and her child could be the 10th billionth or more. -

Well, we just got in from the Back Benchers live recording for Auckland Central Candidates in the upcoming Election. May I just say Jacinda Ardern? What a woman. what a passionate intelligent woman. And Damian and Wallace? What a show. Peas in any pod. And we have a Booze Barn.
And GO Islander.Been reading the other thread on Do the Right Thing. What a woman, What a passionate intelligent Woman :) I think you are the strongest woman I have met (minds alone)
It is all about us. Even if someone makes it a mathematical equation, our history is our humanness.
What else should it be? It is the people. We are the stardust.
Ok coat got.I've crossed threads if anyone is confused cos I was :)
