  • Hadyn Green,

From Stu at Yeastie Boys, re His Majesty:

Malthouse and Hashigo Zake have one case left each - only other bottle i know of in Wgtn is one I gave to @annikakes for helping on the weekend.

So that's who you need to sweet-talk.

  • Emma Hart,

A couple of notes of my own:

    - this summer I discovered I really like wheat beers, especially Three Boys

    - I will be in the Wellington area for the entire duration of the test. Attendance will be dependent on both weather and transport (ie the kindness of strange friends). If you want to arrange a meet-up, it might be best to email me and I'll give you my cellphone number.

    - remember the old days, when Hadyn didn't even like cricket?

  • Yalnikim,

Hashigo Zake already have their case earmarked for a Yeastie Boys tasting next month ... who knows what The Malthouse Wizard has in mind with the other one but no doubt he'll spread the word (and love) when he works something out.

My beer of the day, for what it is worth, was Mata's Wheat Beer - Belgian-style with homegrown tangelos and horopito. Summer in a bottle... wow!

    Cheers
    Stu the Yeastie Boy

ps. I'd rather have some anchovy than pork on my pizza.

You realise he talks a lot at the cricket? Just so you know.

  • Daniel Wilton,

The beerfest was excellent the venue felt a little weird however music was good.

My pick of the international beers was the Hefewhietzen from the hoffbrauhaus and the best local beer was the Belgian Strong.

It was my mate that was being escorted out after an altercation in Little India queue. His thoughts were that despite that fact it was an excellent day especially the opportunity to see the Checks

Oooh, good call Stu. That Mata Wheat beer was damned fine.

  • Brent Jackson,

...while Stu's Nerdherder went with vege pizza nicely (quietly I think it would've been perfect with Hawaiian pizza because it needed a tiny bit of salt that the ham would've provided)

Obviously they didn't put enough (any ?) olives on it.

As long as he doesn't go, "I'm bored. When does this end? I can't get a net connection. I'm hungry. I want something to drink. Can we leave yet?" it'll be better than going to the cricket with my daughter.

  • Sue,

I will be at the cricket with my AM transistor radio and ear piece, like the true cricket nerd I am.

Not sitting in the member stands means I'm going to have to drink something other than vodka all day long, which is slightly concerning.

  • Maui Smith,

Does anyone know where in Wellington I can purchase a keg of nice beer (preferably 20 or 30 litres) ?

I've tried Region Wines and Spirits but they don't sell kegs any more.

    Who you calling strange?

    Why?

There are times when he doesn't?

  • Megan Wegan,

What am I supposed to do?

When I was going to cricket with my dad as little Wegan, it was constantly impressed upon me that "cricket is a quite game".

I will admit that i still sometimes get a little annoyed at yahoos at the Basin.

  • Richard Irvine,

I wore shorts last year @ the Basin, I wouldn't advise that to anyone going!

Have fun, unfortunately I can't be there on the 19th, but breathe quietly for me, gang.

Make sure you post the details of where at the Basin we will meet, for those of us who don't know what you look like.

    Cheers!

  • Rich of Observationz,

    Bring back the mud!

I should make the cricket, or the after match function at least. As long as it isn't anywhere in sight of the "Wellywood" sign.

  • Sue,

What am I supposed to do?

listen to the commentary on your transistor radio. Also only have a single earpiece so you can hear the sounds of bat hitting ball and ball hitting wicket :D

  • Gabor Toth,

I'm still hoping that we may see more hand-pumped cask-conditioned real ale in Wellington in the future. With such an active quality beer scene at the moment it's a shame that this style of beer is almost completely ignored. Often when I have managed to find it locally, either the person serving doesn't know how to work the beer engine properly, the engine is poorly maintained (resulting in 50 / 50 froth+ beer mixture) or it is served far too cold. After developing a taste for it while living in the UK, there are few things more pleasurable to my taste buds than a full imperial pint of cellar- temperature best bitter. I just wish it were more commonly available in NZ.

If you're ever in Nelson check out the hand-pumped Townshend ESB or Cathcart NTA at the Freehouse on Collingwood Street. A gorgeous drop, lovingly delivered. Or you can get out into the countryside and try it at their pub in Upper Moutere with a beautiful view out over the Mt Arthur range.
