I don’t know why he couldn’t ride a bike (I blame the parents), but it works beautifully as an image.

When Ed was a young lad it was pretty hard to teach him anything he didn't want to learn. But while he dug his heels in about riding a bike, he did agree to learning the guitar. And now thanks to his musical endeavours he can ride a bike too, so everything worked out alright in the end!

Great opening lines Russell, simply add that DJ'ing can be a thankless task in this day & age when everyone is keen to slip on a track via their device (and sadly all too often, youtube, with advert first ... sigh)

I'm reminded of a good quote re: Serato which was along the lines of "It doesn't make a bad DJ good, but can make a good DJ better" I think its a DJ Day observation, and one I agree with

Being a DJ is the best and worst of jobs. When it falls into place, it's brilliantly affirming: you're the king or queen of the moment, the people are with you and you are their joy. On a bad night, it's a very lonely place indeed.

DJing is, at best, an art not a trade, by calling it a job, unless you are talking radio DJs, devalues both Art and Trade.

That sounds great that Oct 3 Golden Dawn DJ event Russell, unfortunately I'll be doing a DJ set with David Merritt Poetry Experience and some live music with Cash Guitar (Heazlewood) at The Crown that night in Dunedin.

But being a working DJ is a job – you're being paid for your skills. I admire Murray Cammick, who makes most of his weekly income as a DJ, for the range of sets he can play – soul, disco, jazz, reggae, indie. And all on vinyl!

Murray is actually moving house the day before the event, which, if you know what Murray's record collection looks like, is a major relocation.

That's not to say DJing isn't an art too – look at people like Derrick Carter – but it's also both a job and a hobby, depending on what you're doing.

...the set list from PF in Chch on Thur night (should be attached). Bright Grey never disappoints. Going Fishing from the back catalogue. Loved too Trans Fatty Acid. - bugger, missed the cassette... if anyone has a spare for sale, I have ample capability to still play tape :-)

In one of his first legal outings, my 18 year old really got into it at the very front and was well chuffed to meet and chat with SFS post-gig.
