At some point she’ll want a bigger show. Or not – who am I to offer advice?
I would bloody love it if Lorde had a full-on stadium show with an expanded band, dancers and power lighting and super staging.
I've just written a thing looking back at the BRN>BRNT anti-piracy campaign of the early '00s. The most intriguing thing - people took the message of the campaign to be "It's seriously not cool to copy CDs by New Zealand artists, but no one's gonna mind if you burn that Beyonce CD."

From my experience of music wholesale/distribution CD burners really really hurt sales - remember a certain ad agency getting a CD burner quite early in the piece and the nearest music shop went from ordering multiple copies of titles I looked after to 1...
Seems like a century ago given where we are today, yet it was only a few short years ago

Peter McLennan explained the bizarre lighting to me – it was set up for the EDM acts, who stood behind a DJ booth at the back of the stage pretending to play something. They were numerous and almost all shit.
One of the other acts at Coachella was Outkast, reuniting after a decade. It should have been epic, but everyone seems to have been left feeling rather underwhelmed. There are a few theories flying around, but this one is most intriguing. EDM.com speculates that the Coachella audience wasn't impressed with the lyrical hip hop of Outkast because it wasn't as thrilling as the big-ass party experience of the EDM artists that are so hot right now. An unfamiliar sounding song, a gap between songs - these are all buzzkill moments that EDM shows never have.

I track Kudos daily and the overload they refer to has meant they haven't stocked new vinyl in quite some time which is arse. Jazzman has reported similar.
and having hoped to get a copy of the Pink Floyd, See Emily Play 7'' last year I was a little aggrieved to see it stuck up on auction sites almost immediately afterward for stupid money. I doubt the intention was ever to provide a new income source to scalper types.
but, if this is the best way to get the Sub Reps and Scavs reissued, then sweet. as long as I get one.
and Bob, you're saying Clinton's collection has been shipped north? wonder why they didn't head to Slowboat? anyway I was at journo school with Jason and he was a lovely bloke. even got to have a rummage through his stuff - he had broad tastes - so I'll be keen to have a look.

I assume so yes - was told last night that his collection was at conch. I would hazard a guess (I don't know either way) that Conch either bought them or gave whomever representing Clinton the best terms of trade.
I also echo yours and kudos sentiment re RSD - it was meant to be a means to get people back into stores all year round, not for a day - its more record company day as they churn out releases and re-releases that wouldn't have the same buying frenzy from stores or public without this special day. Saying that better than not having the day at all as it still serves a great purpose for the musically inclined

yeah, but the big stuff is always the limited releases, they have the resale value. I'd be happier having them drip fed as usual, there's something unseemly in having a scrum form.

If you've got a Sony TV or BluRay, you'll get ... Sony TV! Patch the telly into a modem. Within Sony TV there is a channel called Moshcam. Moshcam itself is a non-linear channel of most of the big (and not so big) acts visiting (or resident in) Australia. I've watched recent concerts of (cough) Alice Cooper (cough), Blondie, Gary Newman, Sea Sick Steve and a bunch of others. All multi camera, reasonable def, solid audio ...
But you need a cable connection between the TV and the modem. Other Sony TV channels run on wifi, but not Moshcam. Maybe it's higher def.

I like this bit:

Within Sony TV there is a channel called Moshcam.
And we have Samsungs, so we can’t get it, but we can get stuff you can’t. The proprietorial approach to content by the set manufacturers is not helping the digital transition one bit.
There’s a concerts channel on Apple TV, but it costs money and it’s rubbish. I don’t know about you, but I want to see current shows, not rebroadcasts of concert DVDs.
But I reckon that live-events concept is quite powerful. Not just concerts, all kinds of things people might want to virtually be at.

I really enjoyed that, cheers. And one of the hardest working vocalists at the moment, Claire Duncan, was a perfect foil on the track Minus Times Infinity. That was great live.
Might see if there’s still some vinyl around on Saturday.

I think once Lorde was nominated it was the obvious and appropriate choice and the way she accepted it was exceptionally classy. I guess a lot of people assumed the award was for independent acts only but then we are distributed by Universal so it's all rather blurry anyway. My personal pick was Jonathan Bree's The Primrose Path.
I must implore that The Phoenix Foundation are certainly not playing an acoustic set at Real Groovy tomorrow. We will be playing the 7" stuff straight up.

Great record. As Havoc observed in your interview on Wednesday, there was no one in that lineup you wouldn’t want to win.

Most people probably wouldn't have got the reference, but it was interesting that she specifically mentioned the vocal she agreed to do for the new @Peace album but couldn't. Any sane person would have forgiven her for having to bail on it as her world was blowing up last year, but it obviously weighed on her mind. Again, classy.

Stepping up to the plate seems to be Lorde's speciality. Listening to her video link I swear her accent's already trending mid-Pacific. She's scary.
I'm happy for Naked & Famous and all but God help me they're representative of a dull strand of indie pop. You expect NZ to succeed with something a little off-kilter, like... er... Lorde, but those kids are nothing more than a testament to professionalism.
And hey Auckland, if the Foundation are going to do a plugged up thing at Real Groovy then get along there pronto. Their in-store at Slow Boat last year before their UK trip was superb. Just being able to hear everything at a mellow volume was a treat. They know how to make all them boxes work the little imps.
I too wanted them to scoop the Taite but I actually thought Jonathan Bree was going to get it. It felt like the vibe among the cognoscenti.
