I wouldn't go out of my way to hear Lily Allen's new stuff either, but what I have bumped into by chance has been okay as pop goes.
I like Lilly Allen. I like the fact that her songs are witty and about something and are generally good pop music. I think she's going to have a problem with range -- she sings everything in the same meter -- but it's fun for now.

Hey, not guilty I say! I listen to a whole bunch of stuff, and love a good pop song as much as anyone (and rock features a lot less in my musical tastes than was once the case).
It's not that I think pop is a lousy artform that can't aspire to more than bubblegum, it's just that I find Lily Allen's stuff to be adequate entertaining pop, rather than genuinely standout, that's all.

NZ isn't a police state (yet, the Nats have only been in office for 3 months), but it is a place where if somebodies given a mandate to do something, they probably will.
So it's highly likely that if s92c gets implemented, there *will* be RIANZ functionaries looking for torrent seeds with NZ IP addresses and banging out disconnection notices.

That I think is highly unlikely. It's about threat rather than anything else. They simply don't have the resources or the manpower.

Well for example, if you follow the link, you'll find a banner posted by the Creative Freedom Association, under the headline,**"Artist not a criminal",**, followed by flashing Guilt upon accusation, Accused murderer? Accused Arsonist? Accused filesharer?
Pretty outlandish hysterical connections being made there for legislation that criminalizes no one, by the group that spearheaded the campaign against this legislation. Sure you may get your internet connection cut off but in anyway comparing having your internet cut off to being branded a murderer or an arsonist, is completely over the top.

To be honest, I wholeheartedly support the intent in preventing the implementation of this legislation . and In all fairness to to the CFF, I'm not entirely sure it was them that posted that, it was 'clovenhoof', whose only connection to the CFF was Matthew Holloway's post below reading

I just don't feel that, this kind of misrepresentation helps the cause much.Just as I'm just not convinced that this-
Currently if the police want to search your house or tap your phone or internet they'd need to present evidence to a judge, however with this proposed treaty then any copyright holder would be able to bypass the court and monitor your internet connection, your friends internet connections, and your travels overseas - all in the name of protecting artists work. As artists, we're not quite convinced that the protection our work's copyright warrants this kind of activity.
-Is as specifically relevant to the artists that the CCF is recruiting, as it is part of a larger battle. Having said that I signed up.

I think Simon's right. I doubt that the hyperbole you referred to helped the campaign much.

She's a great lyricist, genuinely funny, witty and entertaining with the right mix of harshness to keep the bro's (even her Dad) on notice. One of the things I like about her is the subtle nod towards 1980 era Two Tone.
Having said that, the first tune I heard from her was LDN and i don't think she's bettered it IMO.

I was inclined to disagree, as we all know New Zealand is a police state and they really would imprudently start turning average Jonny's internet off pronto; )
The thing is I wasn't sure if Simon caught that, and may have thought I was suggesting NZ is a police state when in actuality I was having a go at the rhetoric. Then I started to worry that the winky thing is too old skool so I left it off this;
