  • TroyHoward,

"There is no evidence that the tongue is connected to the brain." Frank Tyger

"to coin a senseless phrase can be termed creativity, but to advance another's senselessness in the name of mindfulness is surely indication of that unique variety of brain damage often attributed to prolonged exposure to car exhaust" M. Taslov

    touche.

I did live in Auckland traffic jams for many years.

  • giovanni tiso,

Danielle, why are you always so angry?

It looks like you were actually answering my post, there, Mark. May want to hone your reading skills a little.

And I never suggested banning you from the site. But seeing as this is a thread for people who happen to think what happened yesterday in the US was pretty special, it seems like a strange place where to come and tell us of your burning interest for the NZ election. There are plenty of open NZ election threads on PAS, it's hardly a topic that hasn't been covered round here.

Besides: Russell doesn't owe you a post, and we don't owe you the pleasure of our conversation. (Mine is sparkling, you might have noticed.)

  • BenWilson,

Oh come on there's got to be some obscure futuristic flick with a black president waaaay back when.

  • TroyHoward,

    but seriously. Danielle is right.

    How are we brainwashed?

    What are we brainwashed with?

    Please explain.

  • mark taslov,

    Mark,

i'm perturbed that there are 42 pages devoted to another US election, 2 days out from a NZ election?

that's probably because there has __just been_ an American election.

    indefatigably aware troy.

are you serious? No little return for the REST OF THE WORLD who don't have US passports?

totally serious, It won't make a fuck load of difference to my life. on a day to day, week to week etc basis, maybe it'll change some of the stories we get out of the place. hopefully they'll get out of iraq fast but the damage is done there, they should stop invading places, but ostensibly, the personal impact- minimal for me. and probably for you too there in the Chch. The political impact, well I doubt the machine, that manufactures weapons, funds third world dictators, strong arms samll coutries like NZ into towing the line, hasn't just evaporated. It seems important, it sounds promising, it's good for morale.

  • mark taslov,

i don't know troy. i didn't say brainwashed, Danielle said it when she interpreted US drones as brainwashed. ask her.

  • Mark Harris,

People, just ignore and carry on. It's not worth your trouble. (Doesn't anybody remember their Usenet lessons?)

Yes but, It makes a difference to me. For all sorts of reasons.

I see it this way. The giant oil tanker (in the big boat sense) that is the USA, was, with George W and the boys at the helm, dragging the world into a fairly unhealthy and desolate place. Now WE CAN HAS a new captain, one who can at least string more than 4 words together ("they misunderestimated me" remember that). So, sure the boat may still keep going in roughly the same direction for a wee bit, at least it's now turning towards a better and brighter place. It will get there.

My only reasons for being unhappy about Obama in charge, is that the Daily Show will now have its work cut out for it. Still there is always FOX to take the piss out of.

  • B Jones,

Meanwhile, any thoughts on the first fictional FPOTUS? My bet's on the one in Carl Sagan's Contact, in the year 2000 (the distant future). She got swapped out for a photoshopped Bill Clinton in the movie, though.

  • Sam F,

I have no idea how she could have inferred 'brainwashed' from 'drones' either. What next, 'mindless'?

  • TroyHoward,

FPOTUS...Wasn't that Geena Davis? And does Mary McDonnell from BSG count?

  • mark taslov,

sure troy i know what you're saying, sighs of relief all round, but i mean this is 44 pages at the right time, notwithstanding the screeds shit that have been written about the obamafication on this site alone in the past year. obama seems like the man, but christmas is still a month and a half away..

Thank you. I had spent good money in booze to try to forget that particular show.

And as for female presidents in fiction, I give you Project Moonbase (1953).

  • mark taslov,

that's why we need to campaign 2 days out from an election, to convince those people who can't make up their mind who they should vote for what the right choice is...for their country. Sure mindless works .

  • TroyHoward,

    obamafication...

We kinda don't have much choice. Would you have preferred us to be RonPaulacated?

as far most PUBASSES are concerned xmas is probably going to be on Saturday. What else are we going to talk about between now and then?

  • Rich Lock,

what i like most about mark's posts is the way they kind of break into rap, or modern poetry of some variety,
    nearing the end,
of what ever he had to say,
    as if unwinding,
    or running out of puff.

    and the way
    there is a total
    lack
    of punctuation or capitalisation
    its like readiing
    e e cummings but
    crap
