And your example of Neil Finn as "Rebelling against the establishment" is laughable.
Then brave, or stupid. Its not many people who make make potentially career altering comments on the record like that.
He also puts his money where his mouth is in his support of local artists through use of his studio. How ever much you may dismiss his musical talent (a view not shared by many notable musicians who rate him as one of the best songwriters around) you have to give him credit for his integrity, not that I'm forcing you to. -
I reckon that qualifies most of us to get our 10c worth in about music and the music 'biz'.
sure, why not. but go for 20 cents. the 2 cent rule was made when there was a unit below it, ie 1 cent. now the smallest unit is 10, so have the unit above that.
Simply asserting greater experience in a field is not a winning debate - (at least I hope not:)
absolutely not, debate winning is about conveying your message accurately and failing that, shouting the loudest.
I would venture that experience and the ability to apply that knowledge intelligently should rate the highest, but debating is about talking, -
I have a confession, I'm not a writer...<whispers>...I'm a poet.
oh well, that's completely different then.
As for my comment re: pay for it out of their own money...I rescind that, I've got no problems with an archive that I give two of each of my books to, it's been done already and they don't chase you down, heh, rampant arcivista's coming for teh artworks.
hahaha, ok then, fair enough, turncoat :)

Let me jog your memory.
(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ci5SZx3VI_U&mode=related&search=)</quote>noted, but the sex pistols are really catchy tunes sung with a snarl, and a large chunk of lyrical attitude.
Finn is not that in his current music, but at the same period in time as the sex pistols he in a band that the sex pistols though were weird freaks. that's got to count for something. -
merc,
Hhehe, yeah but I'm a really heavy poet maan <Neil the hippy voice, not Rick the People's Poet).
And besides, I'm totally in it for the money, meh. -
ps, and don, thanks for that link. its easy to forget what a really good band the sex pistols were underneath all they hype of punk attitude.
I'm enjoying watching all those clips right now. catchy as a beatles re hash?? no comment -

That's ok then, that's almost like art or something innit?
And besides, I'm totally in it for the money, meh.
well it is a good career move, apparently they tell you that at school these days. (subjective, not meant to be read as actually quoting a govt statistic that they do actually tell you that at school these days)
-
merc,
Kids, if some teacher sidles up to you and tells you to become a poet...release the evil.
-
merc, do you every get asked to 'play' one we know at 'gigs'?
as per musicians and their hits or the work of geroge thorogood -
"Woohooo!, Yeah, play us another! Do you know the Rime of the Ancient Mariner?"
"No way man! do the Charge of the Light Brigade!"
"Sod off, play something recent, how about Song of Myself?"
"Call that recent, you old fogey, what about something local? Some Baxter or that Quordle Oodle Wardle one?" -
merc,
I play guitar and really bad piano, I was in a band, I don't do covers. I don't do bardic readings, I read once at a bookstore, bad things happened.
I paint pictures too, I work a day job, I have kids and I love mowing our lawn. Also I love our garage way too much.
I'm just an average joe, nobody who knows me would ask for a cover or a live reading (I write for the page) and anybody who doesn't know me wouldn't know I am a poet, or a guitar player, or a painter.
They probably don't even see me at all. -
I'm not a writer...<whispers>...I'm a poet
try recording some of your poetry over looped beats and maybe you can be a rapper! :)
I'm completely over this discussion
I was completely over it about two pages back. I'm more interested in Lyndsay Lohan, which says a lot about this thread. So I'll put my money where my mouth is and STFU from here on. (and others may/may not care to do same)
-
spinner if you're still reading this bloated thread and I sure hope you've got heavy speaker bins to lug or something instead
if your unable to see the difference between the SATIRICAL entertainment basis of the Today show etc and the factually incorrect, outright lies, and deception of Moores "Documentaries" (as entertaining as they may seem) then you really are "the missing link....goodbye!"
moore quite clearly states his 'documentaries' are intended to be entertainment, with a message. he represents himself on the covers of his movies as a clown,
yes, the topics he discusses are serious but he is not painting himself as a bbc style dry doco thing, and last time I check the news of today matches and beats him on manipulation and 'creative' editing.
The recent bbc queen doco being a perfect example that got them a mighty slap. But you're right, he sure is overweight. -
merc,
"try recording some of your poetry over looped beats and maybe you can be a rapper! :)"
My family would kill me first. -

I was completely over it about two pages back.
I was over it after my first comment but felt the need to defend myself in an ever downward spiral. hopefully another side to this black and white story came through somewhere around dark grey.
The good news is this will be digitally archived (if russell doesn't delete it) for future generations to wonder at, oh joy.....

do it in tune and call it a song, then you can apply for,.....
sorry, I'll get my coat...... :)
-
merc,
Now you a funny guy...;-)
-
jeremy,
smirk plus 10,
you don't do this sort of thing professionally somewhere do you?
I'd be into reading it. -
merc,
Sadly though, reciting your poetry can get you killed.
Baxter was a good poet and look what we did for him. -

Baxter was a good poet and look what we did for him.gee merc, you sure no how to put a depressing mood over an otherwise "up' thread....
sorry, already got my coat, forgot my hat......
interesting point that Federico apparently went knowingly into a situation that was going to get him killed. as a pacifist, or coward I wish people would make their point without bloodshed, although I suppose their point is made a million times stronger in that manner.

merc,
Suicide by poetry, eck. In NZ we have had a string of artist suicides. I comment here in part for them, it's a serious game, this creative mode of expression.
RB is, and always has been a full-time supporter of NZ art and artists, in whatever colour, tireless. And he understands the human mind that may not be so wired as to pulse quite straight.
Brown, present!
It's a measure of the guy that he dealt with you so gently, that's a generous spirit in action right there, that is. -
The good news is this will be digitally archived ... for future generations to wonder at
Let me be the first to say to those future generations: Hi! Sorry about the weather, but the V6 was just too much fun to give up.
-
merc,
V6? V8 or get out of the 'Tron...
-
S'okay, I'm out in the 'burbs, not west-side :-)
-
merc,
That's OK then but you would have a 6 cylinder 3.0 litre, not the flash Harry V6, no? (of which the Nissan Q 35 is the most beautiful).
