Stoked! I seem to remember suggesting TV to you some years back ;-) You and the team do it well, TV3's gain and all that.

  • James W,

It amazes me that the private television channel is more dedicated to public service television than the publically-funded channel. I mean, compare and contrast: The Nation (and Think Tank) vs Q&A. Campbell Live vs Close-Up. Sunday vs 60 Minutes. Inside NZ vs... sorry, I used up all of TVNZ's "current affairs."

Not to sully this occasion with a bitch and moan, however. Congratulations, Russell.

Yay - but if they commission a new serious of Hori Shore... I mean, The GC there will be no quarter given to our new media overlords. The squandered opportunity upsets me more than the show itself...

  • JacksonP,

Excellent. I expect a three-fold increase in TV3 Saturday morning television viewing as a result. And I don't mean 32%.

Well done and congrats to everyone at Media 7.

  • Robyn Gallagher,

Brilliant news! And I'm excited knowing that the Media(n) team will continuing working. Jobs are good.

But what does this do for the Save TVNZ7 movement? Along with Back Benches, Media7 was one of the flagship shows of the channel, and one of the reasons why people wanted to save the channel. What will be left to save of TVNZ7?

  • nic.wise,

Excellent news! (you could have taken the opportunity to rename it Hardnews, for old times sake!)

Is there still a plan to podcast it? Living in London, it's a great way to keep up with what's happening in NZ... (happy to help with that if needed)

I'll have to have a conversation with them about that. How much of T3 on demand is geoblocked for you at the moment, out of interest?

  • Jackie Clark,

Congratulations, my love. That's fantastic news. Will there still be live tapings? Because, frankly, Saturday mornings are better for me than Wednesday afternoons.

There is no saving TVNZ 7 – and that has been the case for some time. It is gone.

But the drive to create a new public service channel for the long term is still vital. The “Save TVNZ 7” name needs to be retired in favour of something that denotes the desire for a new, independent public service channel.

  • Geoff Lealand,

News that has made my day, as I sniffle and cough through a bloody cold. I was fearing that opportunities for field trips for my students might have disappeared.

Still, it only diminishes a little the gathering gloom around the demise of TVNZ7. I was part of a panel at the uni last night (with David Beatson, Claire Curran, Mark Servian and Bomber Bradbury), facing an overflowing lecture theatre full of citizens enraged at the decision to let the channel die,
