  • Stephen Judd,

    Smaugmented reality

I’ve always pronounced Smaug that way like auger or Alison Mau. Everybody these days seems to call him Smawg. It’s going to ruin the movie for me.

And if you add Rio Tinto, Warner Bros, Big Fishing, and potentially Chorus Networks, there’s a pattern. In light of more recent revelations, it could also be called “doing a Holden” or “too big to fail”.

  • Kumara Republic,

And the just-announced decision to drop charges against Pike River on a technicality – FFS – bring to mind the words, “too big to jail”.

  • Sanya Baker,

I’m voting for “reasonable person”, as in, “any reasonable person would…” or “no reasonable person would…”
Because, of course, any reasonable person would want to think they were a reasonable person.

  • Simon Bennett,

‘Governance’ – a nasty word that seems to have replaced any notion of ‘responsibility’, is used frequently, and seems to be singularly lacking in social, corporate and political walks of life.

  • Hebe, in reply to Simon Bennett,

+1 Particularly the split between “governance” and “management”, which leaves the gaping black hole of responsibility that no-one occupies.

  • Scott A,

…I haven’t seen “privacy” on here, did I miss it?

Because privacy’s been an important word for 2013; the next step of the discussion from last year’s starting point of “secrecy” and “privacy breaches.”

I’m no fan of Banks, but what kind of cunt voluntarily donates $50,000 to someone and then sets out to completely destroy the beneficiary’s career for accepting the offer.

Schleswig smells rotten this time of year, and it ain’t just the cabbages.
