Very clever mock up of front page of NZ Herald featuring proposed new mayor.
Nah, I really can’t laugh at this. I think we really need to be asking some hard questions of both The Herald and certain councillors who reek of bullshit breath out of both sides of their two faces. Because let’s be clear and forthright about what happened today: A coalition of the spineless tried to slut-shame an elected politician out of office, starting literally the day after they couldn't beat him at the ballot box, and (IMO) didn’t scruple at telling flat out lies in the process.

Perhaps it’s just me, but following this up:
The hypocrisy on display from the editors at the Herald is disgusting.
So actually to answer the post’s question
“No, no we don’t need to be talking about Len”With some of this the following day:
the impact Brown’s affair had had on the Auckland “reputation that we have worked so hard to build”.
What a disgusting hypocrite.
Somehow diminishes the impact of the word ‘hypocrisy’ and its derivatives as part of your vocabulary, on this thread. just an observation.
Another;
Being one of the hyper-emotional few who has slipped through the cracks of the pervasive conditioning machine that would repress this type of behaviour, especially among adult human beings:
throw an enormous tantrum, screaming and crying so loudly
I find the association to be suspect and somewhat crass.
No harm intended Bart, I just thought I’d mention.

It's also insulting to toddlers who, for the most part eventually develop more appropriate social skills when they don't get their own way. I really can't extend the same pass to the participants in the farce I cringed through today.

Whoever depicted Quax as a Thunderbird when Len last crushed him at the polls got it all wrong. He is, in fact, Captain Black, under control of the Mysterons. We, the Mysterons, will destroy democracy in Auckland.

Spot on
Here's the textbook definition of SOCIOPATH
Does it tick any boxes for the dodgy cast of characters taking party in this whole
sorry affair ????
======
Glibness and Superficial CharmManipulative and Conning
They never recognize the rights of others and see their self-serving behaviors as permissible. They appear to be charming, yet are covertly hostile and domineering, seeing their victim as merely an instrument to be used. They may dominate and humiliate their victims.Grandiose Sense of Self
Feels entitled to certain things as "their right."**Pathological Lying
Has no problem lying coolly and easily and it is almost impossible for them to be truthful on a consistent basis. Can create, and get caught up in, a complex belief about their own powers and abilities. Extremely convincing and even able to pass lie detector tests.**Lack of Remorse, Shame or Guilt
A deep seated rage, which is split off and repressed, is at their core. Does not see others around them as people, but only as targets and opportunities. Instead of friends, they have victims and accomplices who end up as victims. The end always justifies the means and they let nothing stand in their way.**Shallow Emotions
When they show what seems to be warmth, joy, love and compassion it is more feigned than experienced and serves an ulterior motive. Outraged by insignificant matters, yet remaining unmoved and cold by what would upset a normal person. Since they are not genuine, neither are their promises.**Incapacity for Love
Need for Stimulation
Living on the edge. Verbal outbursts and physical punishments are normal. Promiscuity and gambling are common.Callousness/Lack of Empathy
Unable to empathize with the pain of their victims, having only contempt for others' feelings of distress and readily taking advantage of them.**Poor Behavioral Controls/Impulsive Nature
Rage and abuse, alternating with small expressions of love and approval produce an addictive cycle for abuser and abused, as well as creating hopelessness in the victim. Believe they are all-powerful, all-knowing, entitled to every wish, no sense of personal boundaries, no concern for their impact on others.**Early Behavior Problems/Juvenile Delinquency
Usually has a history of behavioral and academic difficulties, yet "gets by" by conning others. Problems in making and keeping friends; aberrant behaviors such as cruelty to people or animals, stealing, etc.Irresponsibility/Unreliability
Not concerned about wrecking others' lives and dreams. Oblivious or indifferent to the devastation they cause. Does not accept blame themselves, but blames others, even for acts they obviously committed.**Lack of Realistic Life Plan/Parasitic Lifestyle
Tends to move around a lot or makes all encompassing promises for the future, poor work ethic but exploits others effectively.**Criminal or Entrepreneurial Versatility
Changes their image as needed to avoid prosecution. Changes life story readily. -

Mark, I'm not talking about Len, I'm talking about the councilers who represent their constituents by ... well let's just say I don't want to be represented that way.

Can't do them in the lunch room.
that advice might have saved us all some bother :)

He-man Cameron Brewer shows a poor understanding of how influence works:
"He needs to go because he can no longer credibly turn up to Wellington and thump his hand on the desk

Yeah, Fair do's Bart, duly noted, thanks for responding and standing up against that.

I guess someone who actually knows jack shit about grown-up politics should explain to Brewer why John Key and David Cunliffe have consistently (and wisely) refused to comment on this whole farce. And, I understand, have told their respective Auckland caucuses to STFU -- as far as I can tell, Shane Jones is the only one who hasn't listened.

what a surprise

Oh, dear... looks like Cameron Brewer is going to find out what The Herald does to its useful idiots when they're no longer useful... If you'd excuse me, I have to go comfort my weeping crocodile.

What makes the Panasonic case surprising is there’s not many “hotels” per se for under USD100 [=currently JPY10,000] in central Tokyo. There are budget chains as cheap as JPY6000/night, but not in central locations, and breakfast would not be included, and the tariff tends to include “per hour” rates, i.e. it’s not somewhere a respectable businessman should be spending the night. Unless you really want practical demonstrations of how well your company’s batteries work.
Any lower than that, and, either it’s a capsule outfit, or you’re in hostel territory.
(Backpackers start from JPY2000/night for a shared room.)Well yeah, ...if you're a tourist. However, Japanese corporations don't work like that and typically block book hotels at much lower rates than your average punter can do via the internet.
But that is quite relevant of where NZ's at now and where Japan was at back in the 80s-90s. In Japan, that sense of entitlement has been bashed out of the public and private sectors due to economic austerity and more public disapproval of how Japanese power brokers liked to roll.

Meanwhile Akld Council has just voted against any mention of the Living Wage. Unlike Wellington where people like the Living Wage Council and want to work for it.
-
Bernard Oarsman has just tweeted that they're going to break a whole lot of undeclared perks of Cameron Brewer's in tomorrow's herald. So will they be calling for his head too? Or is it really the sex that has got them so workup?
-
Craig Ranapia, in reply to

Well, yes -- because, of course, I'm sure the self-appointed media morals police are tucked up in their pristine marital beds polishing their chastity belts as we speak. And if you believe that, I've got one slightly used bridge in Nigeria that wants to give you a million dollars.

I see the Herald once again went full redtop this morning. Never go full redtop, etc.
Underneath all the hiss and roar might just be the shadow of a point, but why this ridiculous OTT crusading stance and why now?

And they will be just as wrong for doing it to him as they were for doing it to our democratically elected mayor.
It's not the corruption (minor at best) present in our councils that concerns me but the corrupt editors and owners of some media outlets.
-
Craig Ranapia, in reply to

No, thankfully Cr. Brewer's sex life remains a known unknown (to coin a phrase). But, boy, while the Filthy Five and the Herald were riding their moral high horses yesterday it turns out Cameron just forgot to declare his own junkets. And isn't it funny how the story is well buried in the paper and Bernard Orsman's tone is *cough* considerably more temperate. Guess we're not going to get a screeching front-page editorial demanding Brewer's head on a pike any time soon.
-
Craig Young, in reply to
However, we should recall that the Mysterons always failed in their objectives. Although is Len Brown capable of retro-metabolism?

Mediaworks is one of the major submitters involved in the CRL and sought that the NOR be declined. Brewer has also been the CRLs most ardent opponent within Council.
Even if the link is coincidental, the fact he didn't declare the gift casts considerable doubt on him now.
Hope Bernard picks up on this link.

Sorry: CRL? NOR?

Filthy Five
Oh Christine, you're so licky
-
Sam F, in reply to
Sorry: CRL? NOR?
CRL = City Rail Link (usually misdescribed as the "rail loop"). The NOR is the Notice of Requirement from Auckland Transport, which requires Auckland Council to identify and set aside land in the District Plan that will be needed for the building of the CRL.
Declining the notice would mean in effect the Council refusing to allow its own transport agency to make preparations for its own highest profile transport project. Super!

Is it wrong that I feel a nigh-on-orgasmic and highly addictive rush of schadenfreude every time I hear the words “Cameron Brewer declined to be interviewed” on Radio New Zealand?
