  • Roger Lacey,

Clearly there was a missing element in the experiment... you should've considered the effect of music on the bees under such excitation.

Something soothing or ambient but contemporary.

  • David Haywood,

So many clever and amusing responses here. Such a shame I've been pulsating too much to fully enjoy them...

So was it a beehive (a wooden structure full of bees...) or a bee swarm or what that you decided to attack with a lawnmower?

Just to clarify the sequence of events...

I saw a thingish-looking thing on the lawn as I was mowing, and I thought to myself: "Doesn't look important, just mow it, dude."

    Then suddenly bees were everywhere...

But I like to think that even if it had been a proper timber beehive on the lawn, I would still have had a go at mowing it. My lawnmower is quite a good one, and I like to see what it can do.

Swelling is gone, and now I'm at the itching stage.

  • Ben Austin,

Might I suggest that in future you consider adopting the principles of hands-off management when you see thing-ish looking things on the lawn that have an air of mowiness.

That way both your fellow team member (the lawn mower in this case) and your good person will be able to focus on individual strengths that better deliver upon desired known outcomes while also controlling negative externalities.

  • Ross Mason,

    Dictionary:

    Thing
–noun 1. a material object without life or consciousness; an inanimate object.
    2. some entity, object, or creature that is not or cannot be specifically designated or precisely described: The stick had a brass thing on it.
    3. anything that is or may become an object of thought: things of the spirit.

This particular Lawn Thing was certainly not lifeless....

I found an Urban Dictionary meaning for "Thingish"

    Thingish
The period of time when you are seeing someone before you are officially dating.

    2. The awkward phase when someone asks you and your "significant other" if you are dating and you both look at each other, look away, and realize neither of you know.
Mary and Bob have been a thingish for a week now.

The Mowing must have been an interesting first date.

    beware the antigen
my sympathies - being allergic to bee stings
the very thought of your ordeal almost brings on anaphylaxis (during which I bloat, and float away while suffocating - shudder)
I follow the fine advice of Sir Henry of Rawlinson End "...and always wear bike clips when mowing the lawn."

Warning: may contain NSFW pictures of Vivian Stanshall & Keith Moon wearing Nazi uniforms!

spend an entertaining 10 minutes in jolly old Blighty.... part 1
