And readers will doubtless be glad to know that it's printed by Apple Pie Design, home of the lovely Ian Dalziel.
So that's why that bugger keeps hanging around here.....on the lookout for easy things to print/publish!!!!!

I hope it starts a craze of otter ownership.
An otter is for life, not just for Christmas.
Have you seen Tarka the Otter? The way otter ownership is described is rather like looking after a couple of dozen inquisitive preschoolers on a sugar binge. With extra added strong smell of fish.
I have a vivid memory of one scene in the film (which I saw when I was probably about 7) where all the wine and spirit bottles in the otter-owners house were hanging by rope from the ceiling - the only place they were safe.
-
Metal work? :)
Ouch! Yes, much worse than maths, though once down I feel metal work would stay down. Maths homework would be a regurgitator. All those mistakes.
-
We can hang bottles from ceilings at our place, shouldn't be a problem. The fish smell...can always be masked.
I haven't seen Tarka the Otter - it's next on my list of to-dos.I have seen a rather unsettling doco on a woman who kept a 'pet' tiger... Tigers get such great press, Life of Pi, etc. I think otter ownership warrants some serious consideration in this context.

Ewe otter bee mighty proud, David. It looks inspired. Please please print some more!
Further to Ian's offerings, I thought Beatrix Potter might have been a rich source of literary otters, but the only one I remember is a passing reference to 'wicked otters' in The Tale of Mr Tod.

Any in the Narnia books?

Any in the Narnia books?
Don't know, but there's a Lottie the Otter in Return to the Hundred Acre Wood, the recent authorised sequel to The House at Pooh Corner.
-
I always make a special point of lingering by the otters at the Wellington Zoo. They project cheerful, eager energy and good nature, even if they are vicious little buggers with teeth like razors and rancid fish-stink.

A friend in Canada who knows about these things said river otter behaviour can be summed up as "fighting and f*ckng". Just like the West family.

Yes, the lovely Ian Dalziel is very lovely and deserves a dedicated post (if not a book and a documentary). When Bob-the-boy is asked about his best friend he always says "Ian and Pixie". Pixie being Ian's cat.
One of the great pleasures in doing this book has been getting acquainted with Ian. And Pixie, of course. Not to mention Sally (Ian's equally lovely partner).

3410,
But I'm sure that even a second edition copy will provide for your financial needs come retirement.
I'd bulk up on the Deutsch editions if I were you, Ross.

Many thanks for all the kind words, people! Particularly from Jolisa Gracewood (aged 18). You have wisdom beyond your tender years, young Gracewood.

Don't worry Carol -- it's only the first edition that's sold out!
A second edition is now available, and as far as I'm concerned we'll print as many as it takes. I think you should consider supplies to be practically infinite.

It will be like in the Library of Babel, except every book will be The Hidden Talent of Albert Otter, apart from one copy of the Edmonds' Cookbook.

Bought. I've been doing a lot of that recently. Why just today, I bought a book about turtle-stacking on the recommendation of Lisa Simpson.

I believe those particular "vicious little buggers" are asian claweds. Many years ago when I visited the marvellous Koo Kongsi in Penang I noticed a young Chinese girl playing with a sleek grey cat in the courtyard. I didn't pay much attention until it struck me that "puss" had an unusually thick tail. Sure enough it was an otter. She - for such I was assured she was - was friendly enough, though she clamped my fingers in her mouth in playful fashion, and could probably have chomped clear through them if she'd chosen. As it was she didn't even break the skin. Always a privilege to meet an otter.

The eminent critic Clancy Wiggum concurred, as I recall.

As an Indian food-related aside...
Has anyone here tried a chicken tarka?
It's like a chicken tikka, but a little 'otter.

Make sure you send a copy to Popbitch. They are well into otters.

There are disadvantages to cash transactions in bars, though I treasure the inscriptions..
Same problem here.
Of course it could simply be that David hates us - yeah that'll be it.

That reminds me... can I have David's book inscribed by Emma, like last year?
