It looks like GPs will soon be able to prescribe approved medical cannabis products without applying for ministerial approval each time.
It's interesting that the story mentions not only Sativex (MedSafe-approved) but also the functionally identical (but much cheaper) Tilray product, which isn't approved. I'm not sure whether that's significant.

So not even down to specialist level – even for Sativex, which is MedSafe-approved.
Probably the best news here is the undertaking to compile a ist of non-pharmaceutical-grade products that can easily be approved. Finally!

... Peter Dunne said the decision would be shifted from the Associate Health Minster to the Ministry of Health. This isn't a big step, or even a new step. Remember - the Associate Health Minister got control of this decision by shifting to to his office from the Ministry of Health. The only red tape removed here by Peter Dunne was put there by Peter Dunne.
