  • Hard News: Gaying Out,

While feeding most forum trolls is not likely to be a good discussion, I’ve noted that the internets use of the word ‘troll’ has acquired some positive connotations in recent months i.e. good ‘parental troll’ stories tend to proudly acclaim the deviously clever and creative parents of the world.

Adding the negative qualifier Mc [Mc + Trolls = McTrolls] on the other hand denotes a garden variety troll of limited imagination and thus deserving of the banhammer.

Perceptual Motor Programme Jackie was talking about.

PMP operates at most/all of the Auckland schools I relief teach in.

  • Hard News: Floating the idea,

The idea that many children today in NZ will not learn to swim because of school pool closure disturbs me. I fondly remember many great school pool days and support free swimming pools and lessons for long term physical, mental and community health reasons.

I taught myself to swim aged 5/6 and consider myself very fortunate that this opportunity was even possible. The sea water was warm and clear and I was equipped with a kid sized mask and snorkel. However the key factor is that I was highly motivated. Motivated to follow the many brightly coloured tropical fish zipping and darting through the shallows of coral reefs in Samoa.

Alas back in NZ of 1980 a 7/8 year old who could comfortably swim 100 metres+ did not receive a sinlge swimming merit certificate because the volunteer bureacracy of the local swimming pool could not accommodate this outlier.

Swimming/Surfing is my mental saviour. A meditative highly ritualised process where I can cleanse away lifes discomforts, such as having never received a ‘Dolphin’ certificate.

Russel-baiting isn't very sporting Craig. It is sadly logical that any individual spurious enough to advance themselves by claiming to find explosive scientific proof of causation with invented results will also not be leaving the adoring media spotlight anytime soon.

@lucy not having the basic human right to be offended makes any comparable word use study tricky. I thereby waggishly contend that the wicked N word has not significantly changed in it's offensive capabilities over the past 100 years.

But I do agree that it is not wholesale censorship. Just the niggardly dumbing down of a book the helped educate our humanity away from the nigritudes of racial prejudice. I am pretty sure Clemens would have not aproved of the blinding politically corrected light of redacted history.

Apparently silly .... is that the N word is 'more' offensive today than it was over a hundred years ago and thus one of the most challenged books of the last century in the US will be censored in the next reprint

NZ creative industries consistently cross streams in my midi-master-controlled-wifi-world Russel. All our base belongs to us!

Vospertron, the NZ international dance performance group has plans to rock the Imax premier of Tron Legacy from 11:30 pm onwards tomorrow. We do so with force 10 glowing Trons (would do more if the suits weren’t currently in Spain)

Our unpaid tribute to Tron, the iconic 1982 film that portrayed computer games as cool for a generation of geekdom desperate to validate the many reality free continues of hours gone gaming our imagination.

    Interesting to note that

In the year it was released, the Motion Picture Academy refused to nominate Tron for special effects because, according to director Steven Lisberger, “The Academy thought we cheated by using computers”.

    cheat codes to that

  • Hard News: Anatomy of a Shambles,

As a teacher (and a technical artist) I am happy that the kids I taught today will have a 1st class home grown film industry craving to nurture and inspire their creativity.

I am relieved that when home-troubled kids throw their anger and frustration in my face tomorrow, I can calmly look out the window and dear to dream that next year 'I am busting a gut' somewhere in Middle Earth.

The evidence amassed on Public Address over the past month informs me that Sir Peter Jackson is by far a more suitable employer/contractor of my skills and talents than the Hon. Prime Minister John Key.

*groansss* now how do I remove 3 threads of comments from my [redacted]

And now, on Labour Day, public sentiment is such that there will be large anti-union rallies. Ouch.

    anti-incompetent-union pro democracy rallies IMO
