Another primo piece of NZ Equity Masterpiece Theatre."
and I can't see a combo breaker coming anytime soon
No guesses for how a baron of the local film industry would now feel about contracting the players from this fuster cluck dramatisation.
Professionals employ/contract on merit.

@nzlemming yeah I too have done the donkey work for a few incorporated societies in my time. As such I have come to appreciate constitutions with strong processes for accountability. They help our organisations survive the rough times.
If I was a full member of this union I'd be calling a Special General Meeting for a vote of "No Confidence" in Simon Whipp. Alas constitutionally, if just one of the current NZ executive disagreed the SGM could/would never happen no matter % of the membership base I represented.
A friend of mine, who recently finished acting school, is a signed up member of NZEA. As are all 14 of his classmates. None of them pay union subs yet and therefore likely hold some form of associate membership. They were not informed of the international boycott.

... more digging uncovers ...
Attached to the *new* MEAA (NZ) constitution available for download at http://www.societies.govt.nz/cms is a letter dated the 23/9 from the Registrar of Unions to Simon of MEAA requesting 2 uninteresting amendments be made to the constitution.
Therefore some time before the 23rd NZEA recognised its lack of legal status and a decision was made and actions were taken to rebrand the Trade Union to MEAA (NZ).
In rebranding themselves MEAA, NZEA may well have avoided a legal requirement to submit AGM minutes and general audit documents from the last 3 years to the public record of New Zealand.
What is more scary for my belief in Union democracy is that NZEA may have stepped out of one constitution and into another.
Furthermore the new MEAA seems very light on constitutional substance (2 pages) and reads more like a university clubs constitution than a well established industry player. I could be wrong on this = more digging .... *cough* research .... is required.

All Incorporated Societies have a rule book in the form of a constitution, and I can confidently speculate that JWL will be getting roasted by due paying members of AE unhappy with how this action has played out.
I for one would like to sight the formal agreement between MEAA & NZ EA in hopes that some kinds peeps will uncover a fresh way forward out of this farce.
Alas it is late and I have tricky costume repairs to do combat with tomorrow before my performance group flies like fools .... Venezuela this time ;)

Maybe also the Peoples' Front of Judea, methinks?
Certainly there is an element of Group Think in any community of people but I'll quote 'Jonestown: The Life and Death of Peoples Temple (2006)' @ ya DeepRed ;)
Nobody joins a cult. Nobody joins something they think's gonna hurt them. You join a religious organization, you join a political movement, and you join with people that you *really like.*
[this doco scores 8.1 on the IMDB = added to my list of films must watch]

The actor was slammed down by union members before he could finish the second page.
grrrrr this inflames my bile more than anything I have read to date. Can these muppets truly know nothing of safe meeting process? Forget f’ing voting rights as votes hold NO SIGNIFICANCE without the right to speak reasonably. Anyone making a well reasoned argument in a meeting can greatly influence the outcome without themselves needing 'special permission' to vote. Not forgetting the vote was in many respects NON BINDING (which was probably not explicitly stated anyhow).
It feels like we are being exposed to an IRL rehash of Meet the Feebles with regard to how AE are shamefully operating. Please, someone educate these muppets because when you cut someone down in a meeting and then shamelessly lie about it to the media afterwards, you cause lasting damage to the solidarity of a special and culturally unique industry.

This thing a Kiwi industry it devours
Actors, writers, crew, SFX towersGnaws irony, bites hands that would deal,
Grinds hard earned reputations into traitorous spiel,Dismays a King, bamboozles Brown,
All to bring the tallest runaway poppy down!++++++
This thing all things devours
Birds, beasts, trees, flowersGnaws iron, bites steel,
Grinds hard stones to meal,Slays king, ruins town,
And beats high mountain down!
