There's another lovely article by Rebecca Macfie in the Listener.

Trauma has so many levels to it, and so many repercussions. I am thinking of my dear friend who I went down to Chch to see recently. She had, unbeknownst to me, just broken up with her fiancee, and was feeling sad but determined not to go there again. We had a conversation whilst I was down there about how he was the sort of person who needed clear instruction about their relationship status. "But what if there's another earthquake?" she asked me. "Who do I turn to? " And along comes the earthquakes yesterday. Who is she forced to turn to to get into her house? Whose house did she have to go to last night for a hot shower and a hot meal? I am hoping against all hope that she holds strong.

So hard for you all. There really is very little people can say, is there?

I hope that everyone is safe. I just wanted to say that I am thinking very much of you.

Tamsin, I envelop you in a warm cloud of empathy, and if that doesn't float your boat, my sincere condolences.

I don't ever remember having food poisoning. Re Colin - he's a very cool cat. I can't wait till he gets older and lets all and sundry have a go at loving him up. My cat got there eventually, and now at 14, she is enjoying the privilege that comes with being the only surviving animal in the house (currently - who knows when the next pup will arrive?). She's still in fairly rude health. The vet suggested blood tests because of her age, and I reminded him what happened the last time he gave blood tests to one of my beloved fur babies.

If we could have a Wham party, I would be very happy. So happy that I may just have to do my headbanging dance.

Oh, god I hate the way you people make me think differently about things. Just stop it, would you? Funnily enough, for a woman who has no children, and who doesn't even teach teenagers, I think about the age of consent quite a lot. I keep writing stuff here, and then deleting it because I can feel a long one coming on. So I'm just going to have to mull it over for a while.
