  • Hard News: The Beautiful Pants,

If you can't beat it, shoe tit?

I mean you can't beat a tit shoe. No, wait, what I mean is you need to put a blue tit on a shoe.

Oh, just look at the damn picture.

ETA: Oh bloody marvellous, the primary post again. I give up.

  • Hard News: The Beautiful Pants,

I thought it would be a brave man to comment after that. And it was ;-)

The Hungarians call it 'Titsiko-mitsiko'. Well, that was the subtitle when we watched 'California Man' in a Hungarian cinema.

    Don't ask.

  • Stories: Famous blue raincoats, etc,

Two favourite shirts, both which lasted 15 years or more.

First was a really oversized Leod Hayes (Sp?) shirt from the back of Mid City Arcade in 1989 I think, which I gave to someone else a few years back after the elbows gave way. They still wear it for gardening, as far as I'm aware.

Second was bought in a factory seconds shop in a strangely out of the way part of Tokyo that had some very cool stuff. I can't for the life of me remember why I only bought one Issey Miyake shirt, for the equivalent of $60 NZD. Nice shirt though, and the cotton was so fantastic it looked new for the first 10 years, and then looked old but in a cool way for several years after that. Well, sort of.

Oh, and one more. The Patrick Reynolds Batman T-shirt from Workshop. It has been lost, and I'm gutted.

  • Hard News: The Creepy Party,

Vodafine's lamentable inability to operate a reliable email service didn't help either.

Doing the pendant on page 3 seems a bit, well pedantic, but if this was intentional, zing, and if not, also zing.

Strangely I made the same typo in an email today and left it in on purpose. Their monthly phone bill does seem like a list of parking infringements when all is said and done.

I can't get behind Heather Roy and Rodney Hide. So I'll stay in front.

  • Hard News: Doing Science in Court,

Sorry if this has been posted before, but this was interesting.

    Climate Shifts.

First I found Bob Carter, which lead me to this.

  • Up Front: The C Word,

Thanks Sofie. It's just the rubber seals really. Although the inside is in pretty bad shape. Oxidised aluminium. Eww! Will email you, as I am considering selling. This is the no steamer model, JTBC.

  • Southerly: Confessions of a Social Retard,

I should clarify however that I meant this particular crocodile.

    Snap!

There's a big difference between 'being an annoying busybody' and 'OMG that kid/dog/older lady is going to die', though. So the examples you give are more on the 'mind your own damn business, bossy parents' end of the scale - at least, that's how I'd react.

Yes, I wasn't meaning minor infractions, which as Danielle points out are none of my business. It is one of those things which is a fine line for sure, but social responsibility isn't something I would take lightly, as it goes both ways. While it might make my blood boil at the time, if someone stopped one of my children seriously harming themselves, I would be eternally grateful.

In fact if the person is out there who yelled at us at Muriwai as a rogue wave came hurtling up the beach, swamping the rock pool our children were innocently playing in, cheers for that.

  • Up Front: The C Word,

The one good thing about British cars is they are so easy to work on. This fact is handy because it is something you will find yourself doing every weekend.

This certainly applied to the Vitesse in question. The only time I remember it not being in pieces was just before he sold it.

    "FENdltin" instead of "fenDAHLton".

There is certainly an element of Suburb snobbery in operation round central Auckland. Often due to arbitrarily drawn school zones. People still have a hard time understanding why we moved from Mt Albert to Sandringham, with our decile 5 school, when others had moved away to avoid it. Long story, but overall we are totally happy we did. Having Voila and Satya round the corner doesn't hurt either.

  • Up Front: The C Word,

    I imagine it's a not-dissimilar situation with Christchurch's first settlers?

Don't worry, we are negotiating a special place for 'boat people'. Eventually we'll be able to resettle Christchurch.

    oo, oo, Page 9!

    Seconded.

I have also overtly expressed parental guidance on the odd occasion, mostly involving the placing of children in life threatening situations.

Or on the sidelines at football.
