  • Hard News: Media3: Whistleblower Season, in reply to Ian Dalziel,

It’s not like he just uses the wrong words, but he also seems to use the wrong worlds!

Guano by lunchtime? we can only hope.

I spotted one the other day, on the Bealey & Fitzgerald aves cnr, flashing out: “LOOKING FOR NETWORK”,

I saw one last week with ALL the lights on at once, gleaming like a rectangular rising sun, I thought "Too much information".

  • Hard News: Media3: Whistleblower Season,

    According to John Drinnan...

Slater's right wing Whale Oil Beef Hooked is New Zealand's most popular and arguably the most news focused blog.

It must be true, it was int' Herald.
Yeah right, I'm sure Russell would have the numbers to dispute that.
As to the BBC "Scandal" We are talking about another time, a time where parents said things like "Don't accept sweets from strangers" and everybody knew that actors were "a bit funny". There was no such thing as a Scoutmaster who didn't enjoy the company of young boys and every family had a dodgy uncle.
It wasn't a case of people turning a blind eye it was more that nobody cared that much and it was just a part of life. Nobody considered those fiddled with were victims, nobody considered that such actions could lead to a damaged life, that as soon as somebody touched a younger person that life was ruined.
I know of people who laugh and joke about the time they took the piss out of the old guy in the park who wanted to take them in the bushes for a "Medical exam" so they could be in his football team. We all knew but we didn't take it seriously because we knew it was mostly harmless, if you wanted to see damaged lives you only had to look at the likes of Hindley and Brady.
I would stand by the statement that more harm is done by the "Think of the Children" brigade than dirty old Uncle Norm and that more damage is done by those insisting that if someone touches you you are fucked up for life.
Argue as much as you like but I speak from experience, I grew up with it and I was not in the minority. It would not surprise me if the "List of Offenders" grew so big that we would have to admit it was statistically normal.

  • Speaker: The Democracy-Free Zone,

Hardly surprising for the cynical amongst us. One of the many pieces of Government propaganda touted as "interviews" with Ministers, or their minions, I have heard recently
was on the subject of Charter Schools. This little gem seemed to slip out "Well if a Charter School does not live up to an acceptable standard then we can shut them down, the same as we can with state schools". This only means one thing to me, a total failure of the Ministry's governance of the state sector. If schools were given the resources they need there would be far less problems. Schools tend to be run by people who know what they are doing, unlike Ministries who seem, these day, to be far better at whitewashing than actually getting shit done.

  • OnPoint: H4x0rs and You, in reply to Ian Dalziel,

… but whatever happened to MSM reporters having “Rounds”, specialist areas in which they built up knowledge, contacts and credibility,

With me, as with Russell I suspect, this was what attracted me to journalism, unlike Russell I was useless at it so, instead, went into the useless field of construction.. Back in the day a career in Journalism seemed like an adventure, a trip into an exciting world of intrigue and discovery, a world where you had to use your wits and knowledge, your experience, contacts and skills in research.
Yeah, I know about deadlines and how you have to, at some point, run with what you have but that was no excuse for a shit story, no excuse for jumping to unfounded conclusions or just making shit up.
I don't know whether I would have made a good journalist, I'm just glad I didn't become a bad one. That would have been worse than useless.

  • OnPoint: H4x0rs and You, in reply to William Ray,

    Ah I see. No worries.

Now, if only certain journalists would engage in such a practice, like understanding stuff before leaping to judgement.
Nice to see so many new faces, as it were. (cos we can't actually see you, it's not like we're GCSB or anything:-)

  • Legal Beagle: Kim Dotcom: all the fault…,

Mr Key told Parliament Mr Peters was "referring to a chap whose last name I do not know; his first name is Regan.

I thought Regan was a second name like Ronald Regan. This two first names/right leaning thing has no end?.

Hey, another guy with two first names. Now, let me guess where your coming from.
    Uncanny isn't it?.

  • OnPoint: MSD's Leaky Servers,

Oh, I had to look. Oh well I figured I should comment on her blog but then discovered you had to be the member of her "team" to comment. So I thought why waste the RSI of typing so I post my comment here...

You say "The purpose of this blog is to offer alternative viewpoints on each of these privacy and security breaches and raise questions that have not yet been asked by the mainstream media." and then you lost me at... "I support Prime Minister John Key, Nick Smith..."
But, like watching a train wreck, I kept reading.
Yes, sometimes security gets a bit over the top but I would rather have that than a free for all, can you imagine how you would feel if you discovered the bank had allowed someone to draw down your account because "they said they were you"?
    You then go on...
"Instead of crucifying the MSD shouldn't we be looking at ourselves and our lack of morals and decency?"
Well yes, that would be nice but I won't hold my breath while people, such as yourself, feel the need to point the finger at those you suspect might have something to do with something you don't approve of, your reference to Hagar is a case in point.
Our Ministers and their Ministries owe a duty of care to their clients (even though this may not be enshrined in law) and when they fail in this, the people that expose them are to be thanked not pilloried.

A better way to f..k up an organisation is to...

I think there could be an instuctable in that.
Another good way of screwing with a large organisation is to reply to a letter that they never sent, works wonders.
