  • Up Front: Something Chronic,

I have been fortunate not to suffer from the fatigue issues described above, and you are all incredibly brave.

Chronic pain (which I have in my jaw joint (TMJ) from osteo-arthritis, and lower back from scoliosis) is often hard to live with too, and you don't always realise the effect it has on you, or those around you, until you have a pain free day. They seem a bit few and far between at times.

Trying to do exercise, and altering eating/chewing, breathing and talking habits has helped both, but it's still there 90% of the time.

After waiting months to see a 'pain specialist' through the hospital, I gave up and went private. Expensive business, but if someone offered me a guaranteed pain-free future, I would gladly pay a king's ransom.

All the best Emma, and everyone else.

    Jack

  • Hard News: Fridays are for Music,

I hadn't met her before yesterday, but she struck me as having an excellent sense of humour.

Yes, and a great face for television, or any other visual media she might care to present herself in. I mean, nicely complements the voice, of course...

Now what were we talking about again? Her live show at Tabac a couple months back was really great, with Lisa Crawley. They make a very nice vocal team. Maybe I'll overcome my Monte Cristo aversion and go see them again.

God, I sound like a teenage groupie!

  • Hard News: Fridays are for Music,

Transmission junction. Ian Curtis Birthday was 15 July, born 1956.

Note the end of the YouTube link is 'LoVE'. Well, I liked it...

Got the Haints of Dean Hall the other day. Is a lovely listen. Julia Deans also making her presence felt, with the live broadcast on the B Net yesterday. Sound seemed a bit off, but she was pretty fabulous, and sometimes very funny also.

  • Hard News: Changing the News,

Due to other commitments, we have a routine of watching the news at 7pm on MySky. The lead story can take up to the first ad break, and once you realise you have been reading about it online, hearing it on the Radio, or discussing it at work or play all day, you can fast forward to other items that haven't yet reached you.

Then you get to skip the finance part, having seen the dollar, roll your eyes as the ASB talking head goes past at 30X, and before you know it it's Sports, What's Toni wearing, and some banter (which was particularly funny last night) about John's career as an actor.

"Come over here". He gets all the best lines.

Yeah, watching the News is no longer very news related in our household.

  • OnPoint: Like a hole in the head,

Or are her and Key actually on the same page?

Maybe by last night, but the article Craig linked to starts with "Police should have easier access to guns by Christmas, Police Minister Judith Collins says."

If she, as Craig rather bluntly pointed out, thinks 'more access' does not mean 'being armed with guns', then good luck to her.

In the car; on the hip; in the hand? Key didn't seem in favour of 'greater access' at all, from what I heard.

  • OnPoint: Like a hole in the head,

John Key talking with Matt Heath on bFM this morning clearly does not support greater access to guns for police. He said 'I'd rather look at increasing non-lethal options like tasers at this stage' (sic).

Here's an idea. Talk to your cabinet ministers before they open their big mouths. Ok, so you were overseas, but, well, it is not an entirely new topic for discussion.

  • OnPoint: Like a hole in the head,

And could Mrs. Collins, Greg O'Connor or Police Commissioner Howard Broad produce any emprical evidence that this kind of policy change doesn't lead to escalation of gun violence and fatalities?

Ah, no? But could someone please get them something to read that hasn't got 'NRA' in small print at the bottom.

    Or real pointillism?

  • Field Theory: Time to relax,

The silence was nice, but I can't help feeling we have started to take our rowing teams somewhat for granted. Oh yeah, three more golds, six medals overall. Meh! Drysdale only got a Bronze. Never mind the fact he just had a break for a back injury.

    And don't mention the Hockey.

God I'm missing the Football. Can you tell? Bring on the second test.
