  • Hard News: Graceless Islanders,

    <quote>Souvlaki anyone?<.quote>

Sure, if I could find a bloody place that made them in Auckland.

I got a taste for them while studying post-grad at Lincoln. There's a place off Cathedral Square near the tram terminal called The Greek Recipe, and I shudder to think how much of my student loan went into that place for their Double Chicken Souvlakis. And the rest of my loan went on Hilliers Pies.

Anyway, while Christchurch was riddled with Souvlaki bars, I cannot find a single one in Auckland. All we have are Turkish Kebabs. Mostly bland franchise ones at that. There was a place called Yeeros up on Victoria Street (or Maybe Wellesley) that sold greek style wraps back when I was an undergrad, but I think it's long gone.

So, anyone know of a souvlaki palce in Auckland? Preferably centre-west?

  • Hard News: Out of the Groove,

I wastched the live webcast ( http://www.attblueroom.com - New Orleans Jazz Fest streaming this weekend!) of the Crowded House Coachella set and didn't think the audience was as bad as the stereogum article made out. There was plenty of singing along, and the audience did OK at taking over Don't Dream It's Over while Neil's microphone was put back together after being taken out by the bottle.

  • Hard News: Awful in more than one way,

I found this quite, uhh, interesting - Dana Perino at a Whitehouse press conference some 25 minutes after Bush was notified of the killings.

An awfull lot of time being dedicated to defending the US gun laws and Bush's stance on gun control, at a time when half the bodies were still probably warm.

Not particularly sensitive towards those still waiting to hear word on their loved-ones.

  • Hard News: Kids these days,

Holy crap! That JC Superstore site is beautiful. Especially tickled by the Allah figure and the various assault weapons included.

Hey, my guinea pig's name was Fluffy too. That's going back 30 years of course, but perhaps they're related. :p

  • Hard News: That's Entertainment,

Signed up for iTunes (yea yea teenagers had it for yonks mother finally gets around to it!) and joined NZ store too. Went to download USD1.99 file to be told only avalable to Visa cardholders with US billing address.

iTunes NZ is fiddly to get started with. After signing in, scroll right to the bottom of the opening page, you can then select your country. I believe it defaults to USA.

After you've switched iTunes Music Store to NZ, all prices will be in NZ dollars and hopefully the track you're looking to buy will be available locally.
