  • Hard News: You down with TPP?, in reply to Rich of Observationz,

Then we’d be able to compete as a provider of quality product

We already do that – trust me, the ads play up “clean, green, quality, safe” big time.

Or instead of commodities like powdered milk, we could sell premium items like cheese and yoghurt

We already do that too. It’s a little odd being at a banquet in the Great Hall of the People and the waiter brings a little basket of bread and a plate full of single-serve packets of Anchor butter. Anchor and Westgold (I think? West-something) butter and Mainland cheese are very common in supermarkets selling Western goods. I don’t know how the price compares with NZ, but last I looked a 250g block of Mainland cheese cost at least RMB30, which is roughly NZ$6.

ETA: And yes, it would be much better for China to have better enforcement of food quality and safety regulations.

    Bejing to protect our IP

Except that that's only part of the problem. There's plenty the NZ government could be doing to clean the industry up in NZ. But no, the Market will sort everything out...

...by refusing to take our produce because we let cowboys ruin our reputation.

    stalwart

Well, she was a bit perplexed at first, being still too little to really remember last winter, and she didn't really like the cold feel of snow on her hands (she does have mittens somewhere... ) but she quickly discovered the fun of stomping around in and crunching that snow. And she was fascinated by a broken drain pouring melt water on the ground. Kids are awesome.

We didn’t make the snowman, but we were quite happy to play with it.

    Try again…

And with a 美羊羊/Měiyángyáng (a character from her favourite cartoon) balloon. She always gets a balloon when she has a check up or a vaccination.

Accidentally left it on auto, so the flash popped up, and it’s not a very good job but I think it’s the first time I’ve ever managed to capture snowflakes.

And when the wee one wakes up I'm going to have to drive out of that and take her to the hospital for a vaccination. I've so far managed to avoid driving in snow...

I just realised the Google form is in Chinese… Heh

That's weird, it's all in English for me, and I'm using a Chinese-language OS and coming from a Chinese IP address...

And for those that remember Playschool on TV

You're phrasing makes me feel all middle aged or something. But tell me, what happened to Little Ted? That's a most distressing photo!

Binnie's report and Dr Fisher's review have been released. Where's a lawyer when you need one? There's a lot in that that I don't understand.

    Grouse.
    Bugger.
    Geez Wayne.

My dad seemed to like grouse and geez Wayne when he was less old. I'm pretty sure I would've heard geez Wayne from the telly when I was an ankle biter, but I'm not quite old enough to actually remember that phrase from any mouth other then my dad's.

'Bugger' is old fashioned now?! Bugger.

"By hook or by crook". I seem to remember my mum using that a lot.

Got a light snow this morning. More predicted for the next couple of days, which could make getting the wee one to the clinic for her next vaccination interesting.
