a blogger at National Review on line is wondering why the kids weren't brave enough to rush the guy.
my experience lead me to believe that isn't such a crazy idea.
i was in the building when a student opened fire on tutorial (a couple of floors up, the last thing i'd do is grab a pistol and go looking for the 'perp', too easy to get shot by another tutor thinking i was the crazed shooter...)
the only thing that prevented more that two dying was a karate guy grabbing the gunman, and the teacher in the room helping the student-karate-guy pin the gunman to the floor.
the teacher was shot in the process, but saved a lot of lives, including his own.

it is amazing how often timothy mcveigh is never mentioned in relation to the most devastation acts of terrorism in the last 20 years.

the daniel i referred to earlier in the piece did a study of the transition from 1/2 hour to 1 hour news.
he found that actual content had decreased, but chat (the fronts talking shit to one another) had increased, as had ads.
so... more "news" but less, well, news.

Close-Up trailer: "The worst massacre in US history".
worse than say, my lai? or wounded knee?
the cynic in me is wondering when gun-toting americans killing one another will no longer be news.
"he killed 168? nah... lemme know when a decent body count comes up. hold on! do we have a shot of the gunman walking anywhere?"

television news is a soap opera that serves to reinforce the viewers' understanding of the world.
has anyone noticed that they always have experts walking past or towards the camera before they're interviewed.
it kind of says, "look dr. [whogivesashitreally] can walk in a straight line! s/he is therefore someone you should listen to attentively!"
yup. "walking" as a way to reinforce that people who talk important stuff are believeable.
must put that on my next CV. "have walked to work on numerous occasions, am therefore brilliant".

i am agent chi.
Tell us about one's swedish neighbour!
some things are best only hinted at.
such as... what sir cliff did to me backstage.
shame... spiced with delight, secrecy and ardour.
so... so... sweet.
"make me the falling water!" he cried... allegedly.

i withdraw and apologise for "silly pseudonym".
i'm obviously confusing my footware with my footloose.
everybody git. everybody git. footloose.

i am chi.
i am the lifeforce that flows between one's cat and one's swedish neighbour.
i am a bit like the "the force", but have been spoken of by the chinese for generations and we don't like those chinese much, which is kind of why g.lucas made those trade federation guys so inscrutable.
but lo!! the lord on high did come down to me and explain the difference between a right and a responsibility!
and lo! the lord did say, 80% of the public don't understand this much, but you chi shall! because you are a lifeforce different to 'the force' which was a poor attempt to characterise the holy ghost.
and lo!!! a responsibility is earned, like driving a car! they give you a test for that you know!
and lo!!!! a right is inalienable, like the right to sit the driving test regardless of race or creed!
and LO!!!!! do not be distracted by rubbish arguments about abortion because you are obviously talking to a christian fundamentalist under a silly pseudonym! you can't hogtie a foetus because they are too slippery, but the swedish are doubtless working on it because they are fundamentally evil like all those damn muslims who are a lot like the sand people!
