And as Russell points out, everyones got a button, somewhere everyone goes off the edge sometime.
real-life examples of that subject that causes you to godwin a thread seriously push me over the edge.
i fricking hate those guys...
and CoC... you should deal with the public service one. it's great and sensible. seriously. but... there is some annoyance that many a blogger is castrated by it.
that said, there's plenty of reason not to have the public service descend into a kiwiblog.

I like budgies better.
the worst thing is trying to sneak them across borders.

And recent comments on kiwiblog are a salient reminder that it's not just those on the right who are batshit crazy
damn straight. that "jason" guy needs therapy.
but to shift subject a little. granted, people can (not-) moderate their own sites as they see fit without a CoC sheriff.
my question is tho; if you have a commercial interest in your site, wouldn't it be useful to have a means for casual or noob browsers to that site know what they're in for? so they stay an click away a little longer?

Re the Act kiddies: they tend to be both young and male. Youth and testosterone poisoning accounts for a lot of rudeness and bullying
they also tend to manage supermarkets or service stations, but aspire to being bill gates. hence the spite. stupidity is often the greatest hurdle to financial magnificence.

classic line overheard after a recent craft fair.
"kids just don't get postmodernism these days".
that raised a giggle.

Notice how their silence on Public Address System has been deafening?
this has not been lost on me. some silences are golden.

tried floating this idea myself, but realised that it's a pretty empty way to indicate civility on a site.
for instance, if you're a david farrar you post stuff that is (mostly) not offensive, and it's your commenters who are lunatics. but, because a part of your income or reputation is tied to perceptions of the site, you'll use the sheriff badge regardless of whether you're able to regulate the comments or not. why?
regulate the loonies? loose traffic, maybe pick up other traffic.
put up sheriffs badge? keep traffic, and lure unsuspecting browsers in to inflate traffic figures further.personally, i'd just whack the badge on and then not regulate my traffic. hell, who's going to enforce the badge? right?
