  • Hard News: A depressing day in court,

Children should not have the same rights as adults any more than they should have the same responsibilities.

sorry chuck, but that is simply absurd. someone's age should not be a barrier to the application of rights, or the protection of the law.

i agree that some responsibilities are best withheld from children (i think 16 is too young to drive for example).

but rights are very different. if russell can't take a riding crop to agent canaille, and can't hogtie and punch the swedish royal family in the kidneys, then why should you or i be allowed to do either of these things to a child?

children have the right to be spared violence, exactly the same way you and i do.

  • Hard News: A depressing day in court,

sorry russell, until we have incontrovertable proof that you are not a mind-control pawn of the labour government we will no longer believe you.

so, to help you out, i did a little search.

it produced this picture of a man who looks alarmingly like you, wearing a tinfoil hat.

which should be proof enough for all the skeptics

  • Hard News: A depressing day in court,

the distinctive fetid smell of a shipwreck of fools trapped in a morass of morals ?

you should be writing all this stuff down somewhere for posterity.

    tomorrow morning.

    1. eat something to get over hangover
    2. go buy notebook
    3. speak to people in shop a bit, maybe see if they have part-time work
    4. come home, write things in notebook.

  • Hard News: A depressing day in court,

The Marriage Amendent Bill clearly states that a women can keep the birth father from the birth certificate.

    interesting. i didn't know that.

are they able to have the birth father removed from the certificate after it has been issued?

  • Hard News: A depressing day in court,

they want them taken off the birth certificate

i'm not sure that's even possible.

Easy to see who is parent and who is not on this sneering put down thread

i take that to mean you're in favour of hog-tying and beating children? yes? no?

  • Stories: Life in Books,

__The Algebraist__ got just plain boring

i battled through the first 150 pages... and read it out of sheer determination.

as i reviewed it (briefly) on object dart, much of it was a waste of pages.

  • Hard News: The Civility Code,

    ahem.. [clears throat]

    "head like a hole!
    black as your soul!
    i'd rather die!
    than give you control!
bow down before the one you serve,
you're gunna get what you deserve..."

saw that played to an audience at a gig at takirua depot back in 1990.

a few hundred people watching half a dozen transvestites perform acrobatics on a two story scaffolding.

bit of a perspective shift for a boy from mount maunganui, let me tell you.
