And thanks Madeleine for inspiring that memory.

After my nana died, my mum spent a week tidying up her affairs, delving through decades of cupboards and boxes. She said the drawers were chock full of rubber bands, short lengths of used brown parcel string and suchlike.
Testament to a frugal depression era upbringing, I guess. Vege garden out the back, pine cones gathered from the rural roadside in lieu of coal. I can still smell the brown paper that all nana's packages were wrapped in, books and birthday gifts.
Waste not..

That outburst on Willie's Eye to Eye this morning just lends sympathy to Peters.
And Mr Jackson even ended the show with a sympathetic rendering of this (much funnier) plea from Lyndon Hood: Satirists Urge Winston Not To Resign.
I salute you. You are a natural provocation to ridicule, you make it so easy; you have been the training wheels for a generation of political joculators.
You have achieved that complex and nuanced kind of paranoia where you manage to act irrationally even allowing for the way they are all out to get you. And as the saying goes, just because you're paranoid doesn't mean you're not also a raving narcissist.

It merely struck me as a (golden) opportunity. :)

She didn't get a chance, to McCain's credit.

Did you just make that up?
No, that's what I heard too when they screened the clip on telly last night - "Arab".

You're right - the bar wasn't set particularly high.

Compared to some of her Act colleagues, Coddingtonswallop was positively gifted.
I had forgotten. The horror.

Golden (heh) !

Thanks, Sofie. Anyone who thinks the phrase "hidden agenda" is unfair ought to read that story. When are the Nats going to have some ideas that aren't a tired re-run of the 90s, like their front bench. Craig, you need to give em a rev up. Voters deserve a genuine choice.
