Super and eloquent post.
That story of fruitlessly seeking employment is SO the experience of so many disabled women. It is a collective shame for all of the employers/ people on interview panels/recruitment consultants who continue to shut talented and keen disabled women out. It is their responsibility that they discriminate, but that doesn't take away from the way we experience the toxicity of what they do. -
Gotta say although I know the context for #disabledandcute and am pretty supportive of what it means for us as disabled people, I just find it SO difficult to get past that "cute" word. Too infantilising for my comfort.

To add to what you pointed out about disabled people across the whole range of impairment being at greatly increased risk, the NZ post-census Disability Survey points out that most disabled people have two or more impairments, and one disabled person in 3 has unmet health needs- which means that many disabled people don't get support services, or pretty inadequate amounts of it. International research about disability, violence and abuse shows a complex mix of invisibility, insufficient inadequate services, denial of basic human rights and attitudinal black holes.
This isn't just about services though, it's as much about how this always runs in the media,(breathless paeans about 'mercy killings) or in the courts where judges and lawyers strut their inimical stuff . Both frankly are revolting and crappy.Ruby Knox's killing (see, I choose to name the victim, not the killer) and the killings of all those other disabled people deserve better than simply focussing on service provision though totes agree it's important too. -

Some things amongst the considerable pile of ordure peddled by Henry, Plunket, Hoskings and their fellow travellers are "slow steamers". Shauney's ill-considered rant to Louise Carrol comes into that category. It still leaves me incensed, and I still consider that the BSA got it very wrong. I try not to remember Shauney's shit too often- bad for my mental health-, but be sure that many of us bear profound resentment for this kind of stuff. May he and his ilk be monstered by the BSA I say!

I did some data analysis a few years back for the (then) Retirement Commission, and post-census disability survey data highlighted quite a gap between the rate of home ownership for disabled people (as you say, we cover a very broad range of impairments) and non-disabled people. Unsurprisingly the rate was much lower for disabled people, and was falling.
Fast forward to the present day, and home-ownership is likely to be very small indeed, and being able to live affordably in secure accessible long-term rental accommodation is a very much sought after end that so many disabled people seem a long way away from.
There has been a long period of buck-shoving/problem shoving by government housing departments to community entities such as IHC. Said buck-shovers have had no appetite for providing accessible accommodation, and in doing so have provided what seems to be contempt for New Zealand's largest minority (24%+).
We deserve better, all of us.
