  • Southerly: That CERA Rumour, in reply to Emma Hart,

So, our kids now go to school out next to the Aidanfield subdivision. And it’s fucking Stepfordy.

It's horrible. Great, big, soulless houses plunked in the middle of teeny-tiny sections and, apart from a preschool, nowhere within walking distance for people to go - not a cafe or a dairy or even a postbox. I've been trying to go for walks there while the kids are in school and it's pretty grim.

  • Up Front: First, Come to Your Conclusion, in reply to Lilith __,

If “sex” means only vaginal intercourse, and it doesn’t lead to orgasm for most women, you can see how some would conclude that “women don’t like sex”, or, “women don’t find sex satisfying”.

It's possible you are onto something. I was wondering earlier if the 'women only want sex until they've had enough babies" thing actually reflects the fact that fear of an unwanted pregnancy can be an enormous turn off for some women which, similarly, assumes a reasonably narrow definition of "sex".

  • Busytown: What was lost,

My son, who ten years ago was turning somersaults in by belly while we watched the planes crash on TV, just asked about what I was reading. I tried to explain how a bad thing happened and how now there's another thing which is also kind of a bad thing. He is perplexed but momentarily satisfied. I am sniffly.

  • Up Front: Home is Where the - Ooo, shiny!, in reply to Bart Janssen,

We haven’t even started talking about dicks yet!

Seeing as half the wankers in the world have their dicks involved in the process I think we kind of have.

I was rather more surprised that I probably out to have been to discover that when night owls breed the result is more night owls. Ask me how hideous school mornings are around here.

  • Up Front: Home is Where the - Ooo, shiny!, in reply to Andre Alessi,

I don’t know, kids seem like a pretty expensive alternative to an alarm clock.

And it's a bit of a crap-shoot as to whether you'll get ones whose body clocks suit your preferred work schedule or not.

Every so often I consider doing some distance learning (both because many things I'm interested in are only offered that way and because most things don't fit neatly around kids' school hours) but, as someone who has never found the middle ground between total pissing around and absolute tunnel vision, I'm pretty sure it would all go horribly wrong in very short order.

  • Muse: Rugby World Kitsch, in reply to Craig Ranapia,

    But isn't it pretty?

Objectively I can see that it's a lovely object but my brain is doing that thing where having seen it one way it cannot now interpret it as anything else and my lips keep doing the twitchy thing.

(Link to image SFW but may offend as it educates those of a seal-loving disposition.)

Cue much confusion as I misread seal as self and then realise I am not actually looking at a prehistoric dildo.
