  • Busytown: Holiday reading lust,

Subtlety gets you nowhere with us dumb non-academic West Coast whitebaiters.

Send me whitebait now!!!! Is that clear enough? And I'm just an East Cape Kina lover, so not sure we really do subtle either, but we do like to try new things ;-)

John Campbell used to be an incisive journalist. Remember him exposing the Timberlands/PR story over a decade ago? Gripping stuff.

Or he could go the Jon Stewart way and do clever and witty. That would be a way to keep the @seven idea alive too.

Have to agree. He cannot be John Campbell AKA John Pilger and John Campbell AKA Rove McManus at the same time. Actually I like both his persona, but when I seek satirical news buffoonery, there are better options.

There are no better options for incisive journalism that I'm aware of, apart from Media7 of course (kiss-butt alert), which makes the current ratings driven changes to CL quite disappointing, IMhO.

  • Radiation: Big bang theory,

    Tortoise! :)

Did you get a pendant too? ;-)

Breaking Bad was particularly awesome last night, especially the opening song, and as I'm not clever enough to embed a YouTube clip, here's the link.

I need to get the back catalogue, cause it was pretty damn good, and the better for being slept on. I mean... oh whatever.

  • Busytown: Holiday reading lust,

I've learned to take them with a saltmine.

Umm, I think that might have been my point, but I'll just go and check .....

..... Yip. Turns out it was ;-)

  • Busytown: Holiday reading lust,

Good choice on the grapes, as this diagram confirms.

Has anyone posted this list here before? It is nicely divided into 'The Board's List' (BL) and "The Reader's List (RL)'. And I'd just like to point out, for no apparent reason, that The Grapes of Wrath is 10 on the BL and 22 on the RL, while The Great Gatsby is 2 on the BL and 13 on the RL. There also seem to be four (that's 4!) Ayn Rand in the top ten on the RL, and none (which as my 4 year old pointed out once, is exactly the same as zero) on the BL.

And that, to coin a phrase, is a loaded Canon.

Umm, is this mansplaining? Anyway, it certainly cleared things up for me ;-)

    [Redacted]
Question: Does any of that make the slightest bit of sense?
Answer: No, so I deleted it.

Summer would also team to be a good time for pitch-fork wielding Waikato farmers to throw their weight around and teach those townies a lesson or two.

Turns out he had 11 Guns, to go with the pitchfork. Maybe he had a licence. No doubt someone will use it to fuel the fire of arming the police, because that's gone off well for them so far. Actually, that was probably too many puns (unintentional I swear) for one sentence to handle. Carry on.

    Love 7 Days

I concur. When they had Rove on last year during one episode, there was one moment that had me practically crack a rib. I'm not sure how much of it is scripted, but the timing suggests very little, and they are sure quick off the mark. And the kids drawings are priceless.

  • Busytown: Holiday reading lust,

I'm all for that - readers find works important to them for a whole lot of reasons, just as profound and significant as any from the hallowed halls of academia or the smoking saloons of publisher's row.

Me too. [Returns to sitting on hands].
