  • Hard News: Too Good to Be True,

As regular PAS know, I'm an alcoholic and my social life would be much more agreeable if so much social intercourse didn't revolve around booze.

I'm with you on this, Craig. I'm not an alcoholic - I barely drink, never have, and I can't stand the stuff, or what it does to people, at least. I find social environments sodden with booze far harder to navigate than anything else. At least when we smokers indulge, we take ourselves off like the social pariahs we are, and it doesn't affect our behaviour (well, unless you count getting cranky occasionally).

In other words, to get all hippy for a moment, everyone needs to cut everyone else a little slack, man.

    Right on!

  • Hard News: Too Good to Be True,

Ironically, if I sat down next to you, and my dog did a big crap, and then I walked off and left it, I'm up for a $300 fine.

But if you sit down and blow toxic fumes into my air, I have to move? Please.

Kyle, I meant the smell of smoke on the smoker . I would never sit down next to a stranger and start smoking. Can I help you down from that high horse?

  • Hard News: Too Good to Be True,

I will continue to believe that those in the throes of nicotine addiction are unable to accept that their behaviour impinges on others

Jill, in what way do you mean impinge? Hypothetically, if I am walking down the street smoking, and you are behind me, you have the choice to move. If I am outside smoking, and you want to talk to me, surely you stand where the smoke doesn't get near you? Are you talking about it impinging on your health? Are you worried about smoky smelling clothes? Do you find it offensive when a person who has been smoking sits down beside you? And what harm do you see coming to you just from walking through a little smoke? You see, when I smoke, I do it outside. Outside my back door, outside a cafe or restaurant, outside and away, usually, from others who do not smoke. If people are with me who do not smoke, they position themselves where they do not inhale the smoke. If I sit down next to you, and you don't like the smell, you are quite capable of moving, aren't you? If there is still smoke in the air outside when you leave a restaurant, but the smokers have left, can't you just hold your breath? I would suggest to you that your disdain of smoking is a personal dislike - and neither I, nor other smokers, are responsible for your mores. We are all affected by others' behaviour. It is up to us how we handle that.

Quite right, Craig. All this judgement about how people live their lives is a bit tedious, really. Bad, bad things happen to people who live healthy lives, just as they do to people who don't. Shit happens to us all. I try to make sure that my bad habits don't aversely affect those around me, and really, that's all I can do.

Call me a puritan, but I find "fun" that doesn't benefit others or engage with the broader world to be downright solipsistic, and thus revolting to me.

I'm sure even you, Andrew, see what a ludicrous statement this is.

Why not? I think you've both arrived somewhere really special over the last twenty-one pages...

    Brilliant.

  • Busytown: Oh, Gee,

Not the case in the UK, where our friend Daphne Fowler (you can see her on Eggheads on UKTV) has over the years won cars, trips to the Olympics, staggering amounts of cash and jewellery, paid off her house etc

I love Eggheads, dale. Much impressed I am. And as for big bazonkas, Jolisa, I too have an amplitude of b breast, and find hoodies no problem. But then I have a big tummy as well, so it's all very well proportioned.

Good old cherry red or shiny black Doc Martens, imported at enormous expense from the UK.

Indeed, that was my younger brother's thing. I had to buy him some from Camden Town when I was living in the UK. Very red, very large DM. I have no idea where they ended up, though. I wonder if you and Emma went to UC with him?

It's certainly going to be interesting to see how the better half's contract re-negotations go under the new owners.

Now you're getting waspish, Craig. Funny, but waspish.

  • Hard News: O.G.,

Well, I just finished swatching for this - does that count?

That could count as a hoodie and a beanie.
