Now Brownlee says that they will change the Employment laws so that Warner's can get what they want.

I don't even understand what he thinks he can do, frankly.

Have you forgotten he's our feudal overlord now? :)

If he can just frame it in terms of assisting the recovery in Canterbury.... he can do ANYTHING..

Getting Sir PJ to employ a couple of ch-ch people or shoot a few secs of southern scenery could be enough?

Minimum wage down to $5 ? Tripple the overseas production rebate? no problem!

  • Hard News: Anatomy of a Shambles,

Just an aside on rinsing after washing....

In general, I'm on Ben's side and have only tasted soap later if it was a ridiculously strong soap/water mix.... (I'm also lazy).

But ALWAYS rinse your beer glasses... unless you like flat beer.

A soapy residue glass kills off the foamy head and makes the beer flatter faster...

You can definitely notice the difference.

If low earners lose their jobs the median wage will rise as well

technically... yes... but in reality. no.

The sample size is so large, and the large volume of samples that are low or mid, compared to the very few that are high or extremely high..... means if you take away the lowest 20,000 samples... the value of the new middle numbered sample will still be very similar to the old one.

If the average was 50k and went up to 52k.... the median might have been 28k and "gone up" to 28,001.

compared to the preferences of the owner.

I dont think there's much "prefering" going on by owners? Considering the vast majority are performed on owners too young to choose...

I guess if you dont "prefer" what you've already got.... you can choose to have it done (pretty rare?), or want it put back (not possible?).

I think it's a bit like the size of your feet... you might be perfectly happy, or you might wish you were different, but there's not much to be done about it either way... so be happy with what you've got?

Ok, seeing as you're having difficulty deciding what is "good looking" in a penis...

Do you have a viewing preference for....

    erect / flaccid / in-between?

    circumcised / natural

straight / bent (laterally or vertically)

And probably more importantly than your specific answers, given discussions with friends, do you feel these preferences are widely held (in a given culture) or highly individual?

have my doubts about 'manhood', though. Not just because of the context you most often see it in (alright, I most often see it in), but also because it suggests (or indeed outright states) that your penis is the sum of your man-ness.

Something can be not positive or affirming without being an insult in itself.

"I think Paul Henry is a manhood" doesnt really parse, does it?

Um... this seems like a good place to ask "is this more Government bull-shit, or fair comment"... despite not being directly related to the economics that triggered the thread...

This morning on TV1 or National Radio(I forget which) Anne Tolley said (paraphrasing) that teachers wishing to address class size issues need to take it up wither their school board, as the ministry already assess secondary teacher funding on a class size of 17 pupils and if teachers were teaching classes of 30 or more it was because of local decisions....

Which sounds "reasonable" before you engage your brain... but just doesnt seem right... where's the catch? What is she not saying? Is that at first-day-on-job trainee teacher pay-rates, and more experienced teachers (who are payed more) need to teach more kids to cover their pay-rate? Or is it based on every teacher being in front of students for every time block (ie. no planning, no paperwork or assessing, no further training)... is it all of those and more I havent guessed?

It just screamed "bullshit" at me, but I'm sure theres some small element of truth in it or she wouldnt think she could get away with saying it....

    So, what's the deal?

Great post, I enjoyed it (and felt affirmed- cheers)...

    but one minor quibble

all the colloquial words for it are insults.

Many, sure, but not even "nearly all"...

todger, wanger, snake, cyclops, manhood, beef-whistle.... I could go on for ages...

it really is an organ that probably should be on the inside of your body.

Whatever floats your boat... but I prefer it on the inside of someone else's body... :)

  • Hard News: You don't know what you've…,

Some people are already doing it, on a voluntary basis...

    Here's an example...
    http://vicjazzarchive.org.au/

Unfortunately, it's not New Zealand, and it's only one genre... but it at least shows (some of) what can be done...

They collect, store, catalog, make modern digital archival recordings..... but obviously due to copyright issues, cant release.... They also make fresh recordings of current artists and release those as fundraising.

I only know about it because some of those involved are family....

They are mostly self-funded... but are lucky enough to have a premises with peppercorn rental from the local council, and apply for grants from various state and charitable bodies...

Obviously, something "official" on behalf of or by the state would be far preferable... but these old codgers saw the music they love possibly dying and decided to do something about it... Good inspiration I recon.
