The trouble with reducing the tax on "healthy food" is that different people can have very different dietary requirements so what is a healthy food for me may be a bad choice for my elderly father or your toddler. What percentage of the population does a food need to be a good choice for before it gets the tick? Does something have to be 'the best' or merely adequate to be exempt?

I buy books whenever I can. I was raised by a librarian and have never quite gotten used to the idea that I am no longer exempt from overdue fines therefore buying books works out far cheaper and less embarrassing in the long run.

Tigana was the first book my partner lent me and The Blue Sword is one I read as a young teen and has stuck with me ever since.

Does anyone else compulsively (but discreetly) go to parties check out their host's bookshelves, records and DVD collections? Don't know if I entirely trust people who don't have a book in the house.
I totally do this before deciding how much closer I want to get to a person.

I have no trouble with doing the research on mayoral candidates - there's not too many of them, most are reasonably high-profile (or declared nutbars (or both)) and I only have to pick one of them but when it comes down to picking seven DHB members out of a long list of people I've never heard of it feels damn near impossible to make any kind of useful decision.

We all want to see a rapid reconstruction of Christchurch and wider Canterbury.
While a rapid reconstruction would be nice what I really want is a well-considered reconstruction. After spending the last week and a bit hugely grateful for well constructed buildings and resilient infrastructure I want to see a Christchurch that will do even better when the next big one comes.

Wouldn't seismology be what you do over a few drinks and seismography be what you do in your diary or blog?

I'd be in and I'm comfortable with being in town. A family-friendly event/venue would better promote harmony in my my home if possible (or desirable for others).
