Get it up, and stick it in a full cup (or in my case a yard glass ho ho), and measure how much water is displaced. I suggest warm water

Except that, by that method, short and thick and long and thin would score the same but have very different performance indicators.

I always think Joanne Brown's views on education should be viewed in light of the way she doesn't actually seem to like her children very much.

  • Up Front: Staying Civil,

Having had a partner in hospital yesterday (appendix out, home and healing nicely now) and finding useful information not entirely forthcoming set me wondering whether being listed as "partner" rather than "wife" on his contact form made any difference. Now I'm wondering how much of a real world difference marital status makes on the rights of (and the relevant institution's real or percieved responsibilities towards) the partner in these situations. I'm especially imagining if the worst happened and hard decisions had to be made. How much, if any, legal benefit is there in being married/civilised over being in a long term defacto relationship? And how much difference does the penis:vagina ratio make?

I'd have done an entirely different degree had I been forewarned about how insipid the hood for a BA from Canterbury is. I do however want to do a PhD mostly so I can wear one of those bonnets.

  • Up Front: Staying Civil,

If I had a partner to whom it mattered I might well have done the big-assed wedding thing and probably would have liked it (I am generally in favour of both frocks and booze) but I could never do the church thing - it would just feel dishonest which strikes me as a very bad way to start a marriage.

  • Busytown: Front, man,

The thing that makes Paul Henry upset me more than many of the other arseholes out there is how very often he makes it personal - it's not Asians or mustachioed women in general he is poking fun at (which is quite abhorrent enough), he is singling out individuals to make cruel and personal remarks about which makes him a bully.

  • Up Front: Staying Civil,

I use and like partner but I read it more as "dance partner" or, perhaps, "partner in crime" than anything cold or businesslike.

As well as all the no-box-to-tick hassles I've had two really upsetting "labels" arise from the lack of vocabulary to define our relationship (defacto for 13 years). When I was pregnant with my first baby (now almost 9yo) my marital status was listed on my notes as "single (supported)" and when my partner's sister died I was listed in the death notice as her "friend which isn't awful but implies something very different from "sister-in-law".

  • Legal Beagle: STV Q&A,

For things like the DHB where you are voting for several people all at once I'd really like some way to vote in tiers so I could nominate a bunch of people I actively wanted, followed by a bunch of people I didn't hate and then a group who should never even get near public office. Trying to figure out if candidate A is more or less sort-of-ok than candidate B does my head in.
