Capture: Laneway 2015, in reply to
I’ve been to all five Laneways and do think the festival is a great thing for Auckland, and very well run.
It stepped up a level again this year with the new PA and staging at Cactus Cat, the constant flow of free water and nice touches like the video game zone inside the silos, which was a treat (shady and cool, great sightlines out the windows) most people didn't seem to find.

Perhaps liberated by the knowledge that Jackson was taking all the pictures, I took exactly one, all day.
Highlights? Courtney Barnett, then Jakob (who were awesome for three or four songs, then seemed a bit punishing in the hot sun), Royal Blood (total surprise -- what fun! -- although I'm not sure I'd have wanted to hear more than their 45 minutes), Jon Hopkins, Banks, FKA Twigs and the amazing St Vincent, who really should have been on the big stage.
As predicted, the sound at CactusCat was way better than previous years, and the access was a bit better too. I'm struck by how much this current festival music relies on powerful modern PA systems. Quite a lot of it wouldn't have made sense without bass sounds that could blow your hair back.

Hard News: We can make things better here, in reply to
But what is more important is that outside peak hours a large amount of traffic will be removed from roads like the suburban arterial routes. In particular, a lot of heavy traffic (trucks and goods vehicles) during the day will choose to use a road actually designed for heavy traffic.
Yes. SH20 at the moment is an uncompleted motorway that currently disgorges into suburban streets that shouldn’t have to handle heavy motorway traffic. And on completion, it makes a route north that doesn’t pass through the central city and the harbour bridge. That’s a good thing.
Already, if I have to drive south of Auckland, I’ll generally take the Manukau route – it makes much more sense than driving into town to pile on the southern motorway.

Great work, Jackson -- and so speedy! I think that Samuel Herring pic particularly stands out.

There will be 12,000 on site, which suggests the changes to the site have increased its capacity a bit.

Parental pride means unless the Thunderdome is packed, I’ll choose RB over CB on Monday
You'll be fine in the Thunderdome if you can get in via backstage -- the problem will likely be a long queue for the front door. They manage the numbers reasonably carefully.

(I hope you don’t mind, Russell. I feel like there’s lots of people hanging about PAS who would like this!)I actively encourage useful linking!
