  • Field Theory: He's the voice,

Is it cos I's not a cricket-lover* that I can't abide Ian Smiths lamentable comments, then?

    * (I am a sometime fan of cricket, but not that stupid 20/20 version which is what we used to play as 10-yr olds - essentially slash away at everything - no finesse, just hacking.)

Re commentators retiring... is there a reason why we get subjected to the views of a one-time wicketkeeper when we want to watch footy (rugby football) on Sky?

I'm happy to admit that I am not 'run of the mill' in that I enjoy the weird witterings of Murray Mexted, by why oh why do we have to have Ian Smith making sideline comments? Can't he be "promoted" to the other side of the ditch - he'd fit right in with the Ocker comentators.

  • Discussion: Regarding Auckland,

I hope I'm wrong, but I have developed a suspicion that the whole shebang is gearing up to be a chance for ACT (political party) to reinvent itself and, as a side-effect, make most Aucklanders' lives a little worse.

Seeing as the nationwide ACT vote fell apart at the last election & they only got representation by virtue of winning a seat rather than appealing to 5+% of the electorate (I may not be 100% accurate in all this, I'm not deeply into the politics of it) they need to do something to ensure that they don't go the way of Social Credit & just wither on the vine.
So 'Sir Roger' bends Rodney's ear and they conspire to re-jig the Auckland local government so that it can be dominated by ACT-approved players and can be set up as an 'ACT Government' for the nation's largest city . This would allow them to act-out their policies on the 2nd-largest stage in the country seeing as they have almost died a death on the largest.

Of course, it could just be a bit of paranoid conspiracy-theorising on my part, but it is intermittently giving my sphincter the spasms. What do you reckon?

  • Hard News: Veitch,

I may be a bit hard-hearted over this, but I find the professed 7 failed suicide attempts (according to the tv interview last night) ludicrous. Seven failed attempts? That is some serious incompetence!

I can see the odious little creep needs help...

  • Hard News: Veitch,

Re Veitch... The point that I found most compelling was when his victim indicated that he had expressed plenty of remorse, but that the remorse was for the negative consequences the whole sorry affair had had on him rather than remorse for what he did to her .

He gets no sympathy in our house.

  • Field Theory: It's a new season,

Lovely. But it is all those bonus points from where they have snatched defeat from the jaws of victory or had the match stolen by some dodgy reffing decisions (what" me biased?) They also represent where we could have been about 3 points better off.

Still, I was gratified to see we were holding up 7th place despite the crap start to the season. But I have serious doubts about making the semi's.

But you can bask in the glory of your 100% winning record for the season.

(As a Highlanders supporter I have come to recognise that we should celebrate whatever statistics we can.)
