Well the NZRU basically have two options in front of them. One is to go hell for leather with a similar franchise based international competition like now only supersize it (which is what they were trying to do before).
The other is to either completely ditch it altogether or have it as a late in the season Heinekin Cup style comp with qualifying NPC teams competing in it for perhaps 4-7 games depending on how far you go in it.
One of the major problems they have had beside starting the seasons too early is that their are too many different teams. Imagine if in England football they had the EPL teams but then formed regional teams to play in the Champions League, like "Northern England", "London", etc
Aussie will be 100% FU**ED if we go back to our roots. The game will die there with way less sponsorship money and all the players will go to league, Europe or NZ and they'll go back to having NSW and Queensland playing each other 3 times a year and not much else.
I've been playing around with all sorts of scenarios in my head and none of them are anywhere near a silver bullet. The back to basics sounds good in theory but would simply not generate anywhere near as much money as a regional comp so thats the direction I think they will head. But if they do they need to keep the season short so it's like a Champions League comp that supplements an NZ rugby comp.
We need to face facts though. When the NZRU signs broadcasting deals it is based on (off the top of my head) 60% being for AB games, 30% for Super rugby and 10% for the NPC. Going old skool may make NZ rugby fans feel nice for a while but the money will dry up significantly especially for non ABs.

The maximum an ordinary teacher can earn is around 70,000 at the moment so it's well over the average which would be low to mid 60s I guess (teachers start on around 43,000 at the moment).
The holidays kind of make up for it I guess... if it weren't for the fact I've been either marking, or writing assessment, or lesson planning for what seems like every single moment of them and am teaching the future inmates of Mt Eden Prison.

My question is...
Who the hell ends up on juries?
I have been called to jury service 3 or 4 times since 2000. Once I was working overseas and was obviously excused. The other times I have managed to be excused because I am a high school teacher and I could see large numbers of my students missing out on NCEA credits if I was missing from the class for several weeks ( I would be happy to serve if I could see that I was the only one going to be negatively effected).
Are those who end up on juries weighted towards those who are either a) not working or b) in jobs where they won't be irreplaceable?
I'm not trying to be a prick, but am seriously wondering whether our juries are being slanted towards those who aren't overly aware of WTF is going on.

yeah but this is the OG thread!

cough cough splutter.
The above is fake. The sod who wrote it has now informed me. Well done that man though. :)

Here is that thread anyway...

Careful indeed.
I found the original thread, all 53 pages of it about ten minutes ago. By and large I think people were commenting on what was being reported in the media and it was fairly civil towards him. Just not so civil towards each other at times ;)
It does seem strange that he was talking about clearing his name. Did he do that?
Also going after people who basically slagged him as a broadcaster seems ridiculous. That's purely personal opinion. Far removed from making factually incorrect statements and accusations.
anyway, wrong thread.... :)

I found it. Dusted off and ready to go again?!
Jokes.
Anybody want to trawl back through it and see what needs deleting?
I posted this in an irrelevent thread elsewhere in PA so will put it where it belongs...

2 websites claiming additional assaults were committed by Broadcaster Tony Veitch have been shut down following an initial injunction obtained by Veitch and his legal team late last night in the High Court.
One, a sports website and another sports blog refused to remove articles and discussion threads discussing the Veitch case in graphic detail as well as containing what were considered defamatory remarks regarding Veitches ability as a broadcaster.
Veitch was quoted as saying “hopefully this will send a clear message to many other sites that its not OK to slander people on the internet”. Veitch also stated there were “several other sites” he hoped to target by the end of today.

Totally off topic here but where's that Tony Veitch world record thread when you need it again?
It's already begun.

Lets say that 40,000 people rock on up to NH Stadium for a BDO.
Roughly 10,000 would come from the Shore or further north or out west where they would use the lovely upper harbour highway (and once complete it will connect to the end of the north western... works have begun...).
Roughly 20,000 would cruise leisurely into the venue between the hours of 12pm and 3pm and that would leave 10,000 to do the after work thing and battle over the bridge in what is generally a slightly spread out and lighter 'rush hour'. It might take them an extra 10-20 minutes to get there than to Mt Smart (where those same people often still have to get through the Southern motorway and tributaries to get there) but I'm sure they could suck it up.
I think Eden Park is just such a shit long term option unless the trust board buys up every house within a square kilometre and bulldozes it or gets it relocated. I still can't get over the negative BS around the waterfront stadium. It's plain depresses me to think on what an opportunity we missed out on there.
Forget a freakin cycle lane (which apparently may well end up costing something closer to the cost of the waterfront stadium).
