  • Hard News: European Horror Stories,

Oram's comment about the money moves at lightspeed but politics is glacial says it all.

Rid the place of the financial manipulators and then we might be able tosort the shit out.

  • Southerly: Village People,

There is nothing inherently wrong with sprawl. (Ha) But if your mode of transport is a car then miles and miles of converging traffic into a central point is the big problemo. But if Auckland's sprawl included transport corridors, - walking, cycling and rail / trams - then it works. Especially - especially - if there are cross routes as well that bypass the centre. Spag junction demonstrates the complete folly.

  • Southerly: Village People,

Ministry Of Works instantly triggered the song. With VERY sincere apologies to One Man and His Dog.

    MOW

Jerry and his bods, want to MOW the town down ( rpt)

John Boy came along, wants to MOW the town down (rpt etc)

CERA came along, wants to MOW the town down

Rocks came tumbling down, want to take the town out

Mud came bubbling up, wants to sink the town down

Red stuck everywhere, notes to rip the town out

Sewage everywhere, wants to stink the town out

An Actuary came to town, gunna sell the town out

Portaloo in my street, have to take a dump out

M’house ain’t no more, gotta move m’abode out

Flowers here and there, perfumes and lifts the town up

But in the end it will be One Man and his Dog, who will rebuild the town and return to MOW his lawn.

    Monet shot.

Claude had problems with his focus softening too. (Paragraph Just before "Later Paintings"). Pussies on the bookshelf.

  • Up Front: One, Redux,

I'd like to be unable to credit the rumour that the least-damaged houses are being fixed first, in order to make the numbers look good.

It sounds heartless. But. Lets take 12 months and consider if they did (try and) fix the most damaged ones first. They would take the longest to do and more people would be hammering on the door to get their "least damaged" ones fixed.

Doing the "simple" jobs first means that a greater number of people get satisfaction.

It is heartless. But entirely rational.

  • Hard News: Staying Alive,

Good double pager in todays Herald. (One of the few I have read over the years as we have been on hols in Tairua and got to read it on the way home today).

Seems things might be getting a bit of headway although the strange but true story of the "Road Corridor Operations" has to take some of the crumbs of the cake!! What a great name.

Or maybe they really are following the "narrow" dictionary meaning of "corridor" (from dictionary.com):

    4. a narrow tract of land forming a passageway, ..........

Old Canadian joke from way back when the Rolling Stones were a tad younger. (Shit - it is right at the top of Wiki! ) Margaret Trudeau was a "guest" of Mick and co and the joke started doing the rounds.

  • Speaker: Properly Public: It's our information,

MSI BIM was disappointing. A LOT of black ink plastered over and even the date of the expected completion of items was deleted so you have no way to tell when things happen so that one can then surmise what the black is or was.

Shame "we" :-) probably caused the impressive increase in security of the documents a few years ago. We found a MoRST BIM had just had the type turned white rather than deleted. Heh. Copying and changing the font colour worked a treat. Sigh... I miss those times when secretaries or some poor minion didn't know any better.
