My father has assured me, on multiple occasions.... that when he was a lad at primary school (1940s) that every boy was given the strap daily, just in case they had done something wrong!
He also assures me this basically encouraged them to misbehave, as they would still get it even if they were good.

Speaking of Gold medals, has anyone actually seen a medal ceremony yet?
I'd noticed this too.... I think I've seen part of one, but that was probably by mistake :)
What happened to all the standing on the tiered podium, raising flags, and listening to the national anthems??? I assume it is happening but TVNZ certainly aren't showing us. (maybe when a black singlet appears on one, we'll be allowed to see it?)

Am I being too naive (and supportive of improbable conspiracy theories) to think maybe the local history and detail of the lead-up are merely incidental to the "big picture"?
Sometimes I just wonder if it's not just a case of "Shit, the price of oil has stabilized again, where can we push some buttons to fix that?"

Are you guys discussing spelling or pronunciation?
I would suggest that however you choose to spell them... the double-vowel sound should be retained... so they rhyme with one another....
google rhymes with bugle and feudal.... the oo sound from mood.
googling looks like it might use the shorter oo sound from hood?
