  • Hard News: Being Jim,

    And don’t you think he’s a good-looking young man?

    Indeed, a chip off the old block :-)

  • Hard News: Game Lorde,

    that doesn't mean we shouldn't recognize talent and hope for stardom for one of our children. I don't watch shotput on a daily basis either, but I'll watch our star getting a gold medal, for sure.

    That's the nutshell. Showing how NZers can do and do do great things. Seeing that in music, arts, the youth America's Cup, the main event and many other areas. I find it inspirational. Others don't, that's fine. But the cynicism can be grinding.

  • Speaker: The Strange Tax on Your Internet,

    To be fair, Treasury is a place where young grads go for their first job. So they play an important role in creating a ladder for bright young things to get into the workforce, or politics.

    But it does main that their advice should always be taken with a pitch of salt and some real life meat thrown in as well.

  • Hard News: Game Lorde,

    Haven't seen any of her shows. But the videos I have seen seem to focus on Lorde's face. Someimes pretty, sometimes haunting. Is that the "sexualisation" he's complaining about?

  • Speaker: The Strange Tax on Your Internet,

    Normally I'd support this, but the involvement of Farrar makes me suspect.

    David Farrar has lots of interests, some of which are not political :-) He has been a very effective member and supporter of InternetNZ for many many years and his position on topics relating to the internet have been very consistent, no matter who is in power or what various party policies of the day happen to be.

  • Hard News: The shaky ground of…,

    This testing may tell you something about your tempriment, or not. The evidence is to the latter. However, it doesn't at alll work as a predictor of your suitability for a particular job.

    "Hey, we've never had an opera lover in this role."
    "That must mean opera lovers aren't suitable for this job."

    "Hey, the only person in our team that loves opera is Emily."
    "Doesn't sound very compatible with the team".

    Emily gets the pink slip.

    ================

    The lesson from all this? If you're an opera lover...lie.

  • Hard News: Game Lorde,

    Given Lorde's own laudable (geddit) use of the Internet to get her music out there, it does seem a little short sighted. And yes, I will buy the album when it is released.

  • Legal Beagle: The Police Investigation…,

    So, a tweet suggests that what this is saying is...

    1. The police got the law wrong;
    2. That's ok.

    I say, damn straight, if the GCSB can't be above the law, who the hell can be?

    Question for other readers. Am I the only one that found this article incomprehensible?

    Just what point(s) are you trying to make, Graeme?
