I don't think its the responsibility of a sports team to overcome referring blunders though.
That's fine in a one sided game where you win by 20 instead of 30 but when there isn't going to be much in it, 14 points that may not have been scored in a 2 point win is HUGE.
Ah well, there's always the ANZC semis to look forward to ;)

The most fascinating thing to watch from all this will be the reaction of the coaching staff (to the inevitable interrogation - they will crack at some point), and then the subsequent reaction of the NZRU and how much they will let the next coaching group call the shots and tell them who is going to play and when and where.
Though maybe I should just get back to the here and now and save all that for later and just blame the ref.

To look at the specifics we have played Scotland in 87, Canada in 91, Scotland in 95, Scotland in 99 and a rubbish South African team in 03.
While I think we will excrete (in the nicest possible term over France) and do the same over an injury hit Aussie team I also think we could possibly lose a one off game v South Africa in the final.
Please, oh please do not begin organising a victory parade up Queen Street in advance of the final for gods sakes!

When has there ever been even the slimest possibily that the All Blacks could lose a quaterfinal?

In case of loss: "Can you please 'rotate' the scores while I rotate the glasses?"
In case of win: "The Aussies need a shot or three".

Although in an email to my mate I lamented the fact that there is no mention for a solo gig in NZ. They have still never played solo in NZ despite strong album sales here.
I have a poster in my parents garage of a gig they were going to play but cancelled when they were here last time for the BDO.
They are a funny group. A lot of folk don't like them because the political side of things, but hell, as somebody once sang "at least I'm f%&ken trying, what the f%&k have you done?!". Others just don't get off on the beat, while others cringe a bit at the crowds jumping around.
I on the other hand have much respect for the lads.

To be fair, he had a point in the Durban game. Poor old Kelleher got called for knock-ons that were clearly the result of prone Bok players messing with the ball at the breakdown. One time Rolland appeared to be looking directly at a big green arm reaching through to spoil the ball, and still called the knock-on. And that carried-back incident was ludicrous. I'd hate to see a call like that decide a crucial World Cup game.
My lowlight from him came early on when he was squeeling about how their were "three All Black players with their hands on the ball and he's given the scrum to South Africa!!!!".
Umm... Tony. He signalled held up over the line. The entire All Black team could have been making love to the ball and it would have been a South African scrum.
It's the hysterical and the cynical that annoys me. And TJ is great at it and most of the time Nisbett is happy to instigate it himself or carry it along. Mexted at least is reasonably fair, although totally incompetent. They have him in there for the humour element even if he is unaware of it.
These commentators are a big part of why NZers start floating on a cloud of bliss all the way up to the big game where we choke every 4 years.
Yes we are better than everybody else but yes we also drop the ball, give away penalties, make dumb decisions, and lose the odd game and occasionally the opposition does stuff better than we do.
Our scrums might waste everybody elses but our lineout is about on a par with Canada's.

Well I thought the game was a damn good one and our loose forward trio were particularly .... the shiznit. But the worst thing about the game was the horrendous commentary.
Nisbett gets names wrong left right and centre, Mexted is ... well, we all know. And Tony Johnston is a disgrace. he is so one eyed it make me cringe listening to him whinge and moan and never give any credit to the opposition, meanwhile slagging the ref off for not giving the ABs penalties every 60 seconds and for daring to penalise us.
