  • Hard News: The truth about "Party Central",

    proletarian lumps...

if people use public toilets and cemeteries more than rugby stadiums we should spend more on them.

What a pointlessly stupid assertion to make

why? toilets and stadiums are both governed by the same principles - "Bums on seats' :- )

    beware false profits...

The money made by bars and such goes into paying their commercial rates which keeps residential rates down.

but those rates will be the same RWC or not, the businesses still have to pay that - no extra gain there...

    Fad Gidget...

It's a matter of frustration that the only Dunedin issue that seems to make it onto PAS is the stadium.

I just raised a Dunedin issue with The Press's Go section, so I'll raise it here too...

They have just printed yet another Flying Nun article all about this thing called the Dunedin Sound - while omitting that the first release was Chch's Pin Group and ignoring that only 6 of the bands on the mentioned Tuatara album were from Dunedin, the others from Chch and Auckland, and the Bats should really be listed as a Chch band as only Bob (admittedly the writer) is Dunedin based
    - the 80s roster had less Dunedin bands than those from other centres
    - This whole Dunedin preoccupation diminshes the contribution of fine bands from Chch, Auckland, Wellington and even Palmerston North...
more correctly the early Flying Nun Lo-Fi sound could be called the Knox/Hood sound (and they were based in Auckland) and if ya wanted to get all birth town on it, well we'd have the esoteric sounding Invercargill / Te Kuiti Sound...

    ...It's a movie now too.

    The Gall of the French!
sounds like Harold and Maude thru the looking glass...

    On a roll...
speaking of movies, (also by a French production house) Kristen Stewart in On the Road - Kerouac in the Twilight Zone?

  • Hard News: The truth about "Party Central",

    Dem bones, dem bones...

...the local city council released a survey last month that shows that more people visited cemeteries in Dunedin last year than went to Carisbrook.

Hell! People are dying to get in!
maybe they could charge the visitors,
with the right marketing and if they...
"... found a promoter who nearly fell off the floor
He said I never engaged in this kind of thing before
But yes I think it can be very easily done
We’ll just put some bleachers out in the sun..."

    (ta Bob)

Lets make a Boodle, Boodle, Boodle...

    The clean stadiums commitment ...

Tally Ho! Point that thing (somewhere else)...
I guess I'd go see The Clean in a stadium
    but smaller venues are better...
    :- )

    Bouquets and Brickbats...
Wahoo! well I'll be able to watch the show on telly tonight as I have discovered that unbeknownst to me TVNZ7 & 6 has been added to what we get thru our Telstra / Clear TV, Phone, Internet package. (TVNZ7 is channel 97 - which is easy to remember as the other channel I use most is 79 - The Arts Channel)
Snedden's revelation really damns Key & McCully as head-desk-banging heavy meddlers!
Gawd forbid the Govt or the new Supercity tries to enact an anti-eye-rolling law as is being mooted in Illinois...

...and what is about small town politicians?
I just passed a billboard for Chch ACT type, power junkie and Elvis Impersonator Aaron Keown - announcing – "it's time for a zero tolerance on crime" – he seems to have an odd idea of the purview of a local council's powers...
maybe he thinks he's running for sheriff ...

...and don't start me on the vampiric and soulless "Twilight Twins", Bob and Jo Parker, and their people-funded power breakfasts with Tony "pay me more" Marryatt - Bob ya don't take your wife to work!

    Your present location is...

I'll be buying an iPad on Friday (also my birthday!) and I'm looking forward to it.

Whenever we want to know exactly where you are we can just ask Steve Jobs...
... "To provide location-based services on Apple products, Apple and our partners and licensees may collect, use, and share precise location data, including the real-time geographic location of your Apple computer or device."
    Many happy returns...

  • Up Front: Something Chronic,

    a veritable Pantheon...

We should just call it PAntS.

well there is a viable pant lineage that PAS embodies well... we are already part of a Pantisocratic social organisation in which all are equal in social position and responsibility...
...and the regular thread diversions are catered
    for as well, with:
    Pantries for the foodies;
    Pantoums for the poets;
    Pantomimes for the Friday Fiesta;
and, of course, Pantographs for the
    inevitable copyright minefield...

  • Hard News: Behind the Paywall,

    filter feeding...
on Sunday all books were free, but people still managed to spend hours and only took one book, way to much restraint folks...!!
but then there was the young artist living in her
van who grabbed at least 8 boxes of National Geographics - now that's the spirit!
I took a further 8 boxes of Nat Geos to Creative Junk... but after that it was filters off and if it ain't damp it goes in a box and out the door to various places - many will show up at the Super Shed and church fairs... and some will be recycled...
    - though I did put a few aside that I thought you might like Russell...
...to steal an early Robert Crumb Hallmark
Greeting Card - "I was putting the rubbish out,
    when I remembered your birthday...
...expect a small package in the mail soon!"
    :- )
and it isn't one of the signed Andy Haden books that we seemed to be knee deep in at one point....

want to spend my life with a grill like U...

    PASers be ribbin'.

would that be like SPAre ribbins?
    - fresh from th' grill - finger lickin' good!
    - or the biblical girl from the rib cage...

    Teachers keep on teachin'...

My immediate reference for that line is from hip-hop; "haters be hatin", "players be playin", "ballers be ballin", etc.

I'm thinkin' further back than hip-hop...
I'm thinkin' Stevie Wonder and some later
    blind folk too..
