Muse: The Very Odd Future According to…, in reply to
I wonder whether that is why so many people find this musical genre so positive and empowering.
Same reason the (mainly male) kidz have been listening to music since ages ago: because it angries up the blood and gets you all ready to rumble and/or fuck and shit. Plus providing a convenient escape valve for all that oppression in your life from the olds.

Was a Batman quote
Ah, but the correct quote is: “where does he get all those wonderful toys”
ETA: and that would put Goff in the role of the Joker. And he's neither that cool, nor that psychopathic.

Hard News: When the Game is Over, in reply to
the Rugby hierarchy have released this press statement...
Repost to the smalltalk thread...?

If they're going to send the infringement notice to the French captain, then they probably should make sure they don't ask a certain TV1 sideline commentator for his details.
Dear commentator guy,
Thierry Henry is a french football player. Y'know - soccer.
On the other hand, Thierry Dusautoir is captain of the French rugby team - the guy whose face you were shoving your microphone in. If he looked pissed off, it was probaby because: a) his team just lost, and b) you called him the wrong name. Twice.

So I randomly clicked on some old waybacked hard news, and ended up in April 1996
http://web.archive.org/web/19970104180105/http://speeches.com/hardn23.html
John Banks, the bumptious little oaf, had bragged that he would release under Parliamentary privilege the names of all doctors performing abortions in New Zealand, so in Banks’ own words: “You can walk down the street and say, she’s a murderer, he’s a baby killer …” These are, I need hardly add, medical professionals working within and by the law. If Banks carries out his shabby little plan they will be subject, at the least, to personal harassment. And at worst? Who knows?….John Banks is a dangerous, self-possessed little creep who consistently demonstrates himself unfit to be a cabinet minister.
And:
Speaking of loose, Phil Goff is still on it. Last week it was drugs in our prisons, this week it’s taxpayer money going to those bad people in gangs and hospital waiting lists. Why is he so energetically courting the floating redneck vote? Is he minded to have a run at the Labour Party leadership? Well, that would be stupid, wouldn’t it?
Awesome.

Yeah, the P-word has been comprehensively devalued by a billion bad recruitment ads and similar marketing shite.
There are currently 1,339 jobs advertised on Seek that use that word.
Including one that asks if you're 'passionate about 2-3 year-olds?'. Did no-one at the recruiters double-take that before posting and decide to have a rethink on the wording?

What would be some good ice breakers that aren’t of the How are you?, What do you do variety?
I might try "what are you interested in?". As Emma has mentioned a couple of times, watching someone get their freak on about something they're passionate about is pretty entertaining for both parties.
What’s “hair”?
Part of an English upper classes smalltalk introduction 'Air, hair lair. How do you do?'

Up Front: Casual, Shallow and Meaningless, in reply to
This is a whole other debate, but anglicising, or just changing, the names of people whose birth name we have difficulty pronouncing seems (euphemistically speaking) troublesome.
