Similarly the redundancy of 75 staff at my old Christchurch office had a total of two relocate to Auckland, one to the West Coast & two to Oz.

Chuck - You ment pinot-philes - wine loves - right?
As for Sue anti-bashing bill - it's simply modelling behaviour. We don't give corporal punishment to the worst of our prisoners (or not officially sanctioned anyway) & so too bashing kids for being kids is just wrong.
Having lived in afew family homes where some kids had been sexual assulted. Even when prosecutions were successful jail didn't always follow & the question of was it worth going through the trial often came up. This maybe part of the police considerations when building their case.

Owen Glenn surely is the perfect Honorary Consul for Monoco as he definately bought his honour.

I'm still fuming after watching the TV1 special on Canterbury Water last night.
It was poorly researched and worked off various assumptions - that irrigation was needed. It wasn't balanced at all.
Storing water for use is one thing, but the flushing of the soils by irrigation is and will further damage the aquafers water quality. Think of it as a dirty sponge.
We need to stop any irrigation from aqaufers as these are not sustainable - some taking thousands of years for the water to reach the sea and are drained to empty = drill deeper.
The missinformation being promoted by the dairy industry is criminal.
Key lie told is that the volume of water from one flood is sufficent to fill the reservoir. Although this might be true it will never be done.
Flood waters are too silted and will block, grind down and break any irrigation equipment. Flood waters are never used for these reasons but persists as a repeated lie by the dairy industy. -
Willful damage is reaching its zenith at Lincoln Uni with the removal of a beautiful Oamaru/Red Brick McCaskill building.
Dr McCaskill CBE was a conservationist.
Modernisation/improved facilaties might replace this beautiful building, but I doubt it.
If you ever find yourself at Lincoln Uni go to the Library & up the top of the new spiral staircase, stand straight with your eyes closed without holding the hand rails.
It's not level and a little vertigo often follows.
I expect nothing better from the vandals this time either.

And on the RWC lets have some of the 1st rounds in the Islands & park a criuse ship in the harbour for extra accomodation so as not to leave Apia/Nandi/Suva with a big white elephant.

True and often repeated question (normally from Americans) back in my tourism days when booking rental cars was "What do you mean there's no bridge over the Cook Strait?"

Maybe I missed it but does this most recent conviction against Barbara Bishops mean she has had all of her children (step, future or otherwise) removed from her care?
Thoughts are with Finn & his family

Security at Airports isn't about passenger & crew saftey.
It's all about big jets with explosive fuel bing used as bombs on domestic targets. So no need to change security as the prop aircraft don't carry the fuel to do the damage which is the threat being managed not hijacking per se.
And on the Muslim thing. NZ Army had a Muslim commanding a deployment to Afghanistan. That was a real winner for hearts & minds. And there are a few immigrant secular soldiers who come from muslims countries serving on overseas deployments today.

Using science-fiction logic of the Star Trek series.
Captain Janeway was the first woman Captain of a Starship. 1995-2001
Although Captain Sisko was in Command of Deep Space Nine in 1993 no African-American has ever captained a Starship in a series.
So Hillary will lead the Democratic election drive with Barack as her Deputy - So says Star Trek.
