  • Up Front: It's Not Sex, and It's Not Education,

I also would like to add that I think a sex thread - a pseudonymous one - is a perfectly fine idea. I like to hear about peoples' experiences, and being someone who has met many on here and would like to meet more, I would rather that people felt safe, instead of feeling like they were putting themselves/livelihoods etc on the line. It can be a very scary thing sharing in a public forum, and we mustn't forget that there are a lot of people who lurk here, without ever commenting.

  • Up Front: It's Not Sex, and It's Not Education,

Pseudonyms are an interesting thing. I used to be completely against them, if only because I frequented some very nasty online communities where people really did hide behind them, whilst attacking other people, quite viciously, and spreading scurrilousness. This community has restored my faith in that people here generally behave very well, whether they are posting under their birth name or not. And I do understand that people don't want to be googled under their "real" names. Makes perfect sense to me. The only thing vaguely psuedonymous about my name, of course, is that my surname is my birth one. I have a rather distinctive married last name - there aren't many of us in NZ - and it's the name that professionally I'm known as. Which is why I don't use it online, because I am, you know, a kindergarten teacher. And eyes are everywhere. Apart from that, though, everyone else knows me as Jackie Clark - even my mother, as I think I have said before, took years to use my married name. She even used to write cheques to me as JC. Very bad for the banking people. And yes, my husband calls me Jackie Clark. And when I ring my friends, they say "Jackie Clark!" I would be no good as a spy.

Or....not being able to have chocolate, through no fault of your own, and that being perfectly okay. That your life without chocolate is just as rich and fulsome as it was when you had chocolate. In actual fact, you might have had so much chocolate in a past life, one might say gorged on it, to the extent that your chocolate-less life finds you a happy person. And your appetite for chocolate has subsided as the years have gone by, anyway, so it all works out in the end.

  • OnPoint: Set it on fire, then,

Is this like when the NZUSA said the AUSA had to join them, and so all Auckland University students had to pay a fee to NZUSA? Because that was in 1985, and I swear I yelled about that at the time in the Quad to a goodly audience. (I was wearing my student cafe uniform, it was very impactful, I’m told). Is this shit still going on? No? It’s not like that?
Do I need to get up there and show these kids how it’s done? Because I will, so help me! Ah, student protests/politics. Half the fun of being a student, in those days, it was. If only Graham Watson was still around……..oh, wait, I think he is.

You know, I hadn't thought of it like that. I suspect you are quite right.

Ah, boys holding their penises. Yes. I am oft heard to ask small boys "Do you need to go to the toilet, or are you just holding your penis?" To which the inevitable response is either an eyebrow lift (that would be assent) or "I'm just holding my penis". Okay, then, glad that's settled. Pacific Islanders, and this is a huge generalisation based only on my experiences over the years, are notoriously prudish about body part and body functions. Even my workmates have been known to still refer to their periods as "my mate".

At the dog park (which is a volcanic cone, basically) I often come across male dogs with their peni on display, sitting on a hill, looking out over the vista with very happy looks on their faces.

And what about people who don't believe in gods but have a very strong spiritual belief system that isn't covered by any organisation or religion?

It’s amazing stuff, though. Like the bit about how during the fertile part of the cycle, the cervix apparently elongates, softens, opens up and (during orgasm) swoops down like a sort of giant sperm-sucking squid? That’s a cool antidote to the prevailing narrative that the whole arrangement is just a passive, quiet little space, waiting patiently for a willy to come along and rock its world.

Does it really? Oh I do love that image. I never had any idea about that.
