  • Speaker: Medical Journal, Chapter V,

You see, us blokes with the Big V had the wierd idea that it might rebalance the blood flow a wee bit from THE extremity towards the thinking region. We had the desire to ensure that both talk to each other. Caring...sharing...SNAGish like.

Not sure if it worked but it was the thought that counts.

    Rubber Bands.

Family Planning sometime around 1992ish. Lay down. Undies down. Jabbed a la harpoon (nice description). Two nurses. Chat chat chat. "Just lifting this out, tie the knot and ...snip...there...all done". Number two. "Just lifting out, tie the knot and...snip....forget to let go tong thingys.....streeeeetch vas....finally remember to let go tong thingys....JESUS CHRIST. ..it was like being hit in the balls by a rubber band.

Frozen peas. Great buy. Worth their pods in gold!

Mosey on home - with wonderful - and immediately mutually check to see if it still all works OK. Yup.

So my idea was building the basic infrastructure needed by targeted fledgling industries.

We are in a battle to try and promote this "innovative activity" in NZ. There are a few things that have to occur before it takes off. Here is what could be perceived as a few:

Educate more people in science and engineering. This would mean that future middle managers / Managers / Directors would be able to know what the hell is being talked about.
Utilise the existing Govt R&D structures to act as a R&D "Source" by: eg Promoting easy access to staff from CRIs into industry. This could be by secondment or, temporary job transfer.
Allow such people to be guaranteed employment back in the Govt R&D sector to assist in eliminating risk to their income. it would encourage them to try the jump.
Allow IP to be easily tranferred to SMEs (especially) that allow the IP owner to retain ownership but allows development and manufacture to occur.
Identify SMEs with good management, good financial nouse, good bread and butter product lines. Convince them to take a punt on diversifying in any of the good ideas that (have) will emerge from CRIs.

Develop business along the lines of this link to the German Experience.

This paper explains how mid to larger SMEs have kept up with their output in the face of competition. What is striking is the number of long term family companies that have ended up in this group. Where this could be useful is to convince NZers that the BMW and Bach is not the end of their business. NZ needs to have goals that extend a wee bit further than their nose. That allow employees to take bigger hands on in the business. That develop an attitude that business can be good for country, rather than just my back pocket.

NZ is full of SMEs. One could argue they could easily be developed into our lifeblood. It seems obvious that it is easier to grow SMEs rather than try and take the big boys and make them bigger.

    a sock exchange

My biggest problem is sorting out the left and right ones.

But I forgot to attach to the Property Developers the caveat of buying up and riding the wave. That is not productive. Likewise buying stocks to ride the wave isn't either. Growth via the stock exchange can only come via IPOs. Unless you call takeovers productive.

At which point you're a property developer, engaged in productive activity?

An oxymoron if ever i saw one.

    Property??? Productive??? Tui Ad coming........

I would go as far as to say to that it is easy credit that has driven the property bubble in NZ, but that's too just damn obvious and distasteful for most people.

Quite true. When banks were offering 110% mortgages at the height of the property boom......well...

    And

I think investing in stocks is a great idea, personally.

Quite. again. But if you want this magic thingy called "growth" the only way it is going to work along that avenue is to invets in IPOs surely. That was the whole point of a sock exchange wasn't it? To raise captital. You can't do that by just flipping existing stocks.

Convince me, please, that it is not just an ideological issue.

  • OnPoint: Election 2011: GO!, in reply to Keith Ng,

A two party trade (NZ government & NZ public) of a good with a clearly defined monetary value (shares) is pretty close to a zero sum game, not factoring in the time value of money.

It boils down to an idealogical approach to life doesn't it? Owned by all for a Public Good or owned by me and all you losers pay me through the nose.

My childhood friend and confidant Keith Ng stole my lunch and my heart

Obviously the teachers at that school did not do a good job of 'turning' Johnny Boy. Are we now paying for Johnny's pseudo crucifixion and he decided to take revenge on the bad boys by stealing their money rather than take the righteous path of Saint Keith and act in the "Public Good"??

    Jeez. Re SIS report

    Paragraph 22 says

    22. The NZSIS carried out the following required checks for an application of this kind:
     check against security database
     police history check
     credit and company check
     questionnaires from nominated referees
     interviews with nominated referees.

Last part of Paragraph 30 says

“Top Secret” clearances require the same steps to be taken as for “Secret” clearances. Because they require a higher degree of assurance about the candidate’s trustworthiness, however, the inquiries are more extensive. Referee and candidate interviews are required and a more rigorous assessment is made of the candidate’s suitability for access to highly classified information.

From this....ummm.....if I am not mistaken, it appears they did not interview him......oh dear.

Correection: Momentun IS mentioned in the timeline Annex B.
