Not so sparkly on the Taruheru in the dusk - subtle waves of unusual form and orientation longish wavelength directly back and forth across the river - 5.11pm shortly after the first arrival of the slight (highly attenuated) seismic waves of the mag 6.5 earthquake sourced ~16 km deep under Cook Strait at 5.09pm arrived here.

Others will have felt much more, but no need for the photographic evidence!

More conventional aseismic wave patterns photographed with more care obliquely upstream on the Taruheru River yesterday afternoon -
Mid-afternoon with hints of blue sky between the clouds.

And two just after sunset, within a minute or two of same time as today's earthquake arrival, but some high cloud to enliven the colours. This one looks rather like Wellington harbour? but not a good model of tsunami wave patterns.

And willow pattern, not reflecting plate movements of the Pacific.

I agree. The image sort of says alot . Like, everyone is really alone. That's why I'm going to get out to the winterless North. :) Even if it;s not really :)

For big city living you need city eyes: selective seeing. If you can’t do that (like me), you have to leave. Evocative shot Sophie.

Under a sun so fierce I thought this’d be all that’s left of me if I didn’t find shade (or: another selfie for rejection). I found shade and checked the weather app on my phone: Thirty eight degrees it said.

I’m struggling to figure out how many layers of reflection and refraction are in this one. But yeah, my car needs a wash.

Though if I get the right angle, you can't tell how dirty it is.

boot contains a stash of mineral water, a practice I'm very happy to have continued from last summer, especially considering I just saw a post on Weibo from, I think, the Beijing weather bureau, or at least an official Weibo account of some Beijing bureau or another, announcing that the temperature had dropped below 35.

But yeah, I got so many more layers of reflection than I actually saw at the time I was blown away by a bit more than the heat.

If anyone had told me I’d be milking the supermarket carpark as a source of interesting photographs a year ago, I would have said naaaah…..
